2004 Toyota Corolla S 1.8L

Summary:

You'll wonder why you ever considered another

Faults:

Absolutely nothing!! If you're tired of bringing your car to the dealer for problem after problem...you'll love this car.

General Comments:

Purchased new, S model was only 5-spd on lot..I'm not a fan of tacked on "aero" kits, but it's growing on me. I drive a great distance for work, and now have over 56,000 miles on this car in app. 14 months of ownership!! I have not experienced one single problem. Yes there is a great deal of road noise, and a few MINOR creaks now and again... but this is still an "ECONOMY" car, costing under 16,000-loaded-out the door. Compared to my Nissan Sentra made in 1988, this Corolla feels almost lexus like. I'm 6'4" and 285lbs. with a muscular frame, and I fit well. After regular trips of 350 miles non-stop..I arrive none worse for the wear. Gas mileage is a little weird... In warm months it's between 36 and 40mpg hwy... in colder months it's between 30 and 34mpg hwy. No change in driving style, just a drop due to climate change. I still feel that the mpg is outstanding.

Of what relevance is the reviewer's weight and frame type to the evaluation of the car?

I think his weight and frame size is very relevant, as I've heard the Corolla is a tight squeeze for a larger person. I'm about as tall as he is and I'd like to know if he feels cramped in the car. Is the steering wheel too close? How about the range of adjustment for the driver's seat? Is it easy to get in and out of? Any comments would help, as I'm seriously looking at a Corolla for my next car. Thanks!

2004 Toyota Corolla CE 1.8

Summary:

A boring workhorse

Faults:

Absolutely nothing so far. (Touch wood)

General Comments:

The corolla I feel is an excellent commuter car.

It held up to its high reputation of reliability.

I however feel that the seats and the steering position are uncomfortable.

The car begs for a telescopic steering.

An excellent price for your money of you believe in getting from point A to point B.

Otherwise, you might get bored of your car in just a few months like me.

Some of us enjoy the ride. Drive for pleasure. The corolla is a no-frills car. I am not thrilled about my car's handling. A little bit of rain and I can feel the tires loose some grip.

Apart from that I have done 15,000 miles on the car I do have couple of problems to report.

When I turn on the heat or the ac, I get this really pungent sulphur-like smell. Its so embarrassing that now a days when I have someone along with me, I make it a point to tell them its the car that causes the odor not me!!

I talked to the dealer and he said the new Camry's and Avalon's are having that problem too. Its seems that toyota has not figured out the cause for the problem.

Secondly, the car is beginning to rattle a bit. It is not too loud; really not a bother.

Does any one thing the new Corolla's windshield frame sticks out too much? I personally feel it a little difficult to see who is crossing the road. I've had pedestrians come out of no where!!

2004 Toyota Corolla S 1.6

Summary:

This car rocks!

Faults:

The seals in the driver's side window became loose, and there was a lot of air noise when driving on the highway. The cloth on the driver's and passenger's seats is fading and is sort of fuzzy looking.

General Comments:

This car is one spunky little guy. It handles like a dream! My only qualms are that the mirrors don't have lights on them when you open them up to look in, so it's hard to put on makeup. I like it though. The AC blows ice cold, or HOT (which is rarely needed.)
