1983 Toyota Landcruiser FJ60 Wagon Staight 6
The ultimate vehicle!
I bought the car in OK condition for $350. All I had to fix was the inner and outer wheel bearing on the driver side, my reverse lights, and my exhaust.
This SUV is the ultimate off-road vehicle. It goes anywhere and does anything. It doesn't accelerate fast or get high speeds, but that's not what its for.
Would you buy another car from this manufacturer? Don't Know

If you bought a Landcruiser in ANY condition for $350, you can't complain about it! Hold on to it. You have no idea what kind of deal and what kind of vehicle you have. It is a TANK. Treasure it!

Well, I bought the car used from an unscrupulous car dealer.
So, it had a poorly rebuilt engine which just died. I'm in the process of having it replaced as we speak.
Other than replacing and repairing parts that were neglected by the previous owner, it's been really reliable.
You don't drive this truck for performance, handling, or comfort. You drive it BECAUSE IT IS A LAND CRUISER!
This is one of the best vehicles ever made. Maintain it and the average engine will last well over 250-300K miles UNTOUCHED! Some even go as high as 500K without even a rebuild.
Plenty of room to haul all the gear you would ever need, and still cruise down the road in style.
However, you do pay for this truck at the pump. Average MPG of cruisers from 1957 to present is around 14-15!

I couldn't agree with you more... I own a '81 FJ60 and it runs well except the "fuel loading schedule" which is very tight... mine "drinks" 1 litre for riding 4 kilometers...

My '83 fj60 gets 19m.p.g. highway and 12 m.p.g. in low -range on unimproved logging trails.

I own a 1893 FJ60 engine Land Cruiser, acquired at 165,000kms. Needed minor repairs as change of oil seals and rear shock-absorbers when acquired, but for the past several months, I get impressed by its performance month after month.
After completion of an 15-18 day tour trek in the rough terrains of Ethiopia, all I seem to do these days is change the engine oil at 3000Kms on the average, check the shock absorbers, do minor engine servicing-all this thanks to its sturdy structure. You would be surprised at its sturdy appearance as well performance. Typically meant for hardship and successfully winning every time.
Some might see its fuel consumption as a setback, but then again considering its performance, I would say it is tolerable or probably insignificant.
I would definitely buy another eighty's model Land Cruiser than a brand new one at a price much higher.
