1992 Toyota Paseo 1.5

Summary:

Seriously underappreciated!

Faults:

New engine at 70,000 km.

Brake replacement at 235,000 km.

Clutch after 14 years.

General Comments:

I bought this car on a whim as I was looking at Camry's.

Amazingly reliable little car, and if it wasn't for the garage emptying my oil pan and not refilling it at a routine oil change, I'd still be on the original engine.

Great gas mileage still, but is going to need some strut and spring work before I put it through another Canadian winter. That, and a need for four new wheels, has finally got me buying a new car.

I'm half tempted to put it up on blocks and work on restoring it to original condition again, and give it to my son when he's old enough to drive. I'm gonna miss this car. It's the last thing I owned from before I got married!!!

1992 Toyota Paseo

Summary:

Awesome!

Faults:

Water pump @ 200,000 miles.

General Comments:

I bought this car for $1000 with 150,000 miles on it. Put gas in it (usually 350 miles/tank). Put tires and brakes on it once the entire time I owned it! It was lucky if I added or changed the oil EVER! (I was young) I beat the crap out of it, never maintained anything.

This car NEVER died on me, NEVER left me stranded! I couldn't kill it (not that I wanted to cuz really I loved it).

After 2 kids I finally made myself get rid of it. A guy bought it off me for $700 with about 220,000 miles on it. That was 3 years ago. He still owns it, absolutely loves it and drives it every day. It probably has close to 300,000 miles on it by now!

Best car I ever owned. I would buy another one in a heart beat! Bought a 1999 VW Jetta after that and it was the biggest mistake of my life!

1992 Toyota Paseo 1.5 DOHC

Summary:

Great little car with great mileage!

Faults:

When I bought the car, it had a problem with the pulley on the power steering, so I just took the pump off.

The radiator needs to be replaced sometime soon as it has a little leak up top, but nothing serious.

I also just noticed a very, very small oil leak because the pan gasket is worn.

General Comments:

I love this car. It does have some bad blind spots. But I am blind in one eye and I still drive it, so it ain't too bad.

The pan gasket I can fix myself for around twenty dollars. But the oil leak is very small.

I only paid five hundred dollars for the car and it is worth every penny. It still has the original clutch, which I have burned up a little because I taught myself stick on this car. I would definitely recommend it for a first car, because despite the issues I bought it with, the car still performs flawlessly and has never left me stranded.

If you have a family, this car would only work while your children are small, because I am only 4' 8" and I tried to sit in the back once, and I wouldn't be able to sit in the back; the window is too low.

Overall it is a great car. My brother who has blown three motors drove the car for a bit and had no complaints. Which means a lot because every car he gets he complains about.

The gas mileage is also great. This little Paseo gets a good forty mpg on the freeway and at least thirty in the city.

Great little car overall for being a 1992 with almost 200,000. It has very few issues, which are all easily replaceable.
