2007 Toyota Prius

Summary:

Excellent build quality and very reliable

Faults:

Electrical component that caused the battery to drain overnight (I forget what it was called). $90 fix. A/C started working intermittently around 300,000 miles.

General Comments:

I bought this car because I needed something for my long-distance commute. I fully expected it to die sometime, but at $3000 I didn't care. It never died. Great car, over 300,000 miles on the original hybrid battery. Sold it at 307,000 miles for $2700. No complaints.

2007 Toyota Prius 1.5L hybrid

Faults:

Inverter coolant pump.

Headlight bulb frequently burned out for some reason, every 6 months or so.

Consumes oil. No drips, no burning, no smoke. About 1/2 quart every 1000 miles.

General Comments:

This car is unbelievable. It just works, and keeps on working. I put 107,000 miles on it in about 2.5 years. I replaced the inverter coolant pump which is a common replacement for these cars. I couldn't say anything bad about this car. I sold it with confidence that the next owner will be just as satisfied.

Did you inform the next buyer you added an extra 53 quarts of oil in 2 years?

It's a 12 year old Prius with over 300K miles on it. You think the new owner really cares about how much oil it has used?

We have a 2005 with about 235k on it.

It still has all the original struts.

The only things we have done for it are a CV axle boot replacement, water control valve and brake pads.

It was using some oil at high RPM, but we ran some engine cleaner in it and it seems to have slowed down.

It needs a new valve cover gasket now. It loses oil when revved up.

This is the most trouble free car I have ever seen.

Toyota put some serious mojo in these cars.

2007 Toyota Prius 2 1.5

Summary:

At 267,000+ miles, this is an awesome vehicle, worth every penny

Faults:

Replaced 3 front wheel bearings. Two were due to a minor fender bender in the first year of ownership. Total cost was a hair over $1000.00 for all three.

General Comments:

Still drives incredible after all these years. My only complaint is with the driver's seat not being very comfortable after about 200 - 300 miles of driving on a long trip.

2007 Toyota Prius

Summary:

Inaccurate fuel gauge makes driving a challenge

Faults:

The fuel gauge is extremely inaccurate.

It won't budge off of full until you've driven at least 150 miles, and when it gets down near the end, you can never tell how much fuel or range you have left. It is very easy to run out of gas in this car.

I would not recommend this car to anyone because of this problem.

Maybe you should have that checked out. A faulty fuel indicator can be fixed.

It's been my experience that many cars have this issue to some degree as a result of irregularly shaped gas tanks or the length of the filler tube. Many people will top the tank to the rim keeping the sensing unit floating at the upper limit of it's range.

Most mechanics will recommend you never let a fuel injected vehicle go below 1/4 tank. The fuel sending unit in the tank uses the gasoline to keep coll and prevent wear and burnout.

Thanks for the tip, I will keep in mind if when I buy one.

2007 Toyota Prius Package 2

Summary:

Worth the money

Faults:

Nothing.

General Comments:

The Prius so far has met all my expectations of an everyday driving automobile.

We bought this car last week, and it's performing well. I look at this automobile as an interest in life, and an investment into the future and future technology. And just like all technologies, such as microprocessors and batteries, everything will go down in price, and soon you will see transmission driven cars will be more expensive and outdated to fix.

The Prius is leading the way for the future, and I am proud to have one now.

The pick up is fine; it's not like I spend my days racing around town, especially in traffic. As long as it can reach 100mph, it's all good.

I have put 220 miles on it so far, and I average 42mpg.

Your mileage will continue to increase as you get closer to 1000 miles. Our break-in period lasted until 1000 miles and we're getting 46 mpg regularly in city traffic now. It increased about 10 mpg in the first 1000 miles.

"and soon you will see transmission driven cars"

What the hell does this mean? aren't ALL cars driven by a transmission?

I really think he meant to say hybrid cars.
