1995 Volkswagen Jetta GL 2.0

Summary:

Poor engineering

Faults:

Once the engine warmed up the check engine light would come on and the car would start to bog down severly under acceleration. Tried to have the codes pulled and replaced what they said to, but problem persisted. It ended up being the distributor.

Clutch cable snapped.

Exhaust system burned itself up.

Leaks oil from everywhere.

Seats badly worn.

Brakes start to squeak badly every 3000 miles.

Engine pings very loudly unless I use the best premium gas around.

General Comments:

This car seems like it is going to tip over going around corners and still has a very bumpy ride.

I agree oil from everywhere. I keep blowing ignition coils, door locks keep on seizing, window up down problems, car bogs intermittently like it's going to stall, rusting all over yet well taken care of, cannot get dash lights to work even with many new bulbs, the engine is rattling loudly with acceleration, I think the engine is on it's way out. Plus the car was expensive last year at $5500.00. Never another VW.

1995 Volkswagen Jetta GL 2.0

Summary:

It's a great, reliable, economic, and fun car.

Faults:

There was a transmission leak and a part had to be replaced at 130,692 miles.

All four tires were replaced at 134,069 miles.

Front and rear brake pads were replaced at 154,276 miles.

General Comments:

Overall, a good car because it has never completely broken down on me.

Aside from needing to be serviced every 3 months, a very reliable car.

The maintenance is not that expensive at all.

No major things have needed to be replaced in the car (i, e- the engine, transmission, or radiator).

After getting several dealer's analysis on the car, I was told that I could put as much as another 300,000 miles on the car.

1995 Volkswagen Jetta GLS 2.0 4 cylinder

Summary:

Wish I could like it, but many problems, and bad dealer service

Faults:

Timing belt broke at 80000 miles- bent valves,. covered under drive train warranty.

Tires pulled strongly to one side after they were rotated at 7500 mile service, and eventually replaced under warranty.

A/C turned itself off shortly after being turned on, faulty sensor.

Alternator broke.

Wheel bearings too small car clanked when driving. replaced under warranty.

Car lurches after turning on A/C on a hot day,. dealer could not find the problem, but did charge me $180.00 to switch out some rubber part.

Replaced 3 regulators in the doors for the power windows.

Cooling system leaked, flange to head cracked.

Wire from the coil was arcing replaced with another one under warranty.

Radio stopped working, and was replaced with another one under warranty.

Engine leaks oil, and has cost a fortune trying to find its source.

General Comments:

I truly like Volkswagen, but they have made it impossible for me to buy another one. The dealerships service department couldn't be more arrogant and indifferent to the problems I have had with this car. I contrast this with our other car, an Acura TL, the dealer there treats me like a king when I go there. I don't understand how VW can survive with the lack of customer care they seem to have.

When the Jetta is running well it's a pleasure to drive, the power is adequate and it handles well. The interior is holding up very well, and there is a slight buzzing somewhere in the instrument cluster - very annoying.

1995 Volkswagen Jetta GLS 2.0L 4 cylinder

Summary:

Great College Car! Extremely satisfied

Faults:

Needed clutch replacement.

Needed brake/rotor replacement.

Rear window switches don't function; however driver switches for rear windows DO function.

Sensor in the distributor has failed.

Actual metal send unit inside the distributor is faulty.

Cruise control doesn't work.

Speedometer works... on occasion.

Driver-side and truck lid locks no longer function, I have to open the car from the passenger side, and rely on the truck release button on the inside of the console.

General Comments:

This car actually is great. Although, a lot of things have gone wrong with it. Great college car!

Quick, Sporty, Fast and sleek.

I really enjoy how open the cabin is. Plenty of headroom, plenty of legroom, and lots and lots of space. When the windows are down and the sunroof is open, its like my own little convertible.

Disappointed with engineering aspects of the vehicle: No glove box, extremely small and poorly placed cup holders, no storage areas.

Disappointed with cost of parts and labor.
