Faults:
When I first purchased this VW, I was so happy!!...
Then three months after owning it, my water pump went out... why, because they put in a plastic propeller... it doesn't make sense; why would they would put plastic in a water pump... well after that the car was OK...
Then 8 months later, my ignition went out in my car (so I thought). Purchased a new ignition switch. After taking three months of my special time trying to figure out how to take the switch out... I refuse to take to the dealer... I had full coverage insurance warranty and an extended warranty, and it still cost me $1100.00 to get the water pump changed... but I did do the serpentine belt also...
Once I finally figured out how to take the ignition out, found out it wasn't the ignition switch... it was a bar that was in the back of the ignition, and that ran inside my column to the other side, where the turn signal switch is that broke... so I replaced that part. Car was fine for 6 months...
Then my passenger window decided to come UN-spooled... took the passenger door panel off... and I can't see behind the door after the panel is removed; they put a metal plate in there with rivets... so it's impossible to replace. So I forced very carefully a piece of wood back there to hold my window from falling and put the panel back on. So my passenger window doesn't roll down... then.
Two years later... my car decided to overheat... so I changed the thermostat... The car ran fine and I thought I was in the clear... but as soon as I went to test drive the car, it started over heating. Right now I am clueless as to what it is... the water pump is fine... thermostat fine... the radiator itself was just changed two weeks prior to my car overheating (some little kid decided to throw a brick in front of my car and broke a chunk off my radiator).. kinda glad he ran and I didn't catch him cause I would be in jail and not writing this...
Well I am getting radiator fluid to both lower and upper radiator hoses... my fans are working... WHAT can it be???
Also this will be the last VW I own or ever buy again... I am going to sell it and buy me a FORD!!!

It really bugs me when something goes wrong with an import, and right away, an "Import Lover" is first to bash the owner for not staying up on maintenance, although this reviewer bought it used. Had this been a domestic car, it would have been the manufacturer's fault, right?
I feel for the reviewer, as they clearly got ripped off. Getting a lemon is never fun. The sad thing is, according to this site and many others, this model year Jetta, as well as many other VW's are something to be avoided, I just wish they would have found this before purchasing. Unfortunately, you never really know what to expect from a used car, import or domestic. The one thing that we do need to keep in mind, is that cars are machines, and they break. At one point or another, new or used, import or domestic, they break. Please don't be the first to blame the owner whom you know nothing about. Thanks.
