2006 Volkswagen Jetta Package 3 2.0T

Summary:

Excellent vehicle and a great value

Faults:

Nothing at all has malfunctioned with the car.

General Comments:

The 2.0T turbo engine is extremely responsive, very powerful and smooth as butter.

The DSG 6 speed transmission is wonderful. It has the efficiency of a manual (no torque converter) with the convenience of an automatic. Shifts are lightning quick with very minimal to no shift shock. The transmission has a Tiptronic manual mode, which is fun. The auto mode is so well thought out that it selects the right gear 99% of the time, it is a wonderfully flexible transmission.

The interior has excellent build quality. The seats are very comfortable and covered with excellent quality leather. Dual zone auto climate control is very accurate and features a diffuser vent for draft free performance.

This car has great handling, both at low speeds and triple digit speeds. Cornering is very stable and predictable, with excellent grip. ESP stability control takes care of wheel spin and helps keep the car pointed in the right direction when the road is slippery. You can easily tell that this car was designed for the Autobahn with comfortable travel at 100mph plus.

The Package 3 option gives you a host of luxury items. Included are things like backup assist, Bi-Xenon ligts, rain sensing wipers, deluxe lighting, auto climate control, leather interior, etc.

2006 Volkswagen Jetta Package 2 1.9 TDI diesel

Summary:

My first VW and I believe it's a keeper

Faults:

High beam headlights shine in to tree tops. Dealer unable to correct aiming.

Heater/AC control has failed to work three times, but so far has come around after waiting a few minutes.

Rubber plug in lower body in front of left rear wheel keeps falling open.

VW dealership attitude is rather arrogant and tough to schedule service.

General Comments:

Love the 1.9 TDI diesel engine. Excellent performance and 45/46 MPG at 75 MPH.

DSG 6-Speed Automatic Tiptronic (R) transmission is marvelous and extremely flexible. This car can be driven any way you wish.

Car handles extremely well and corners like it has glue on the tires. Does not lean or get dumpy in tight turns at higher speeds.

Disappointed that Sirius radio does not scroll information on its screen. Only displays partial information on screen.

Would be nice if front seats were a little wider and deeper.

2006 Volkswagen Jetta GLI 2.0T

Summary:

Poor man's Audi

Faults:

None.

General Comments:

While the Mk V Jetta is considered a compact, it looks and feels more like a mid-size car. Ride is surprisingly smooth. The GLI package is awesome and gives the Jetta a unique sporty look, which is nice in today's age of look-alike automobiles. Performance of the 2.0 turbocharged motor is great and the car just eats up curves. My Jetta came with the cold weather package and the auto climate control works great. I love the draft-free design. The 6-speed manual transmission shifts as smooth as butter. If I had to get nit-picky, I'd say it takes a bit too long to get juice going to the heating elements in the seats, but once they warm up, they are super comfortable. This car is very enjoyable to drive!

2006 Volkswagen Jetta tdi 1.9 turbo diesel

Summary:

I like this car a lot--low carbon footprint, comfort, acceleration and handling in a compact package

Faults:

Nothing wrong so far.

General Comments:

Surprising pickup for a diesel.

Easy to stall with clutch, until you get the hang of it... much less forgiving of insufficient throttle than a gasoline engine-clutch combo.

The seating positions are the most adjustable I have ever seen. I love the up-down lever to adjust height of driver's seat.

Diesel mileage a little worse than promised (45-47), but better than all, but my Prius.

Sunroof wind-screen hums at highway speeds. Wish it didn't make all that noise.

Windows-up feature includes closing the sunroof, all with the locking key. Great feature.

To set the record straight:

A TDI is NOT a low carbon footprint vehicle. NOX emissions for TDIs are through the roof too, even with the catalytic converter!

TDIs, through their fuel efficiency, burn 2 to 3 times as much air per gallon of fuel as compared to a gas car. So that means 2x to 2x the CO2 and NOX is released by YOUR Jetta TDI.

If you want a REAL low emission/carbon footprint vehicle, you need to buy a propane/CNG fueled vehicle.

Sorry :(

Don't forget all the SO2 TDIs generate. SO2 is the prime cause of acid rain. Nice!

Your both wrong. Most stations have at least 2% biodiesel which cuts the carbon. Comparing a TDI to a 2.0 or 2.5L it is already 20% more efficient in CO2. Your facts are not facts. Using biodiesel furthers reduces the CO2 output largly. I can say for a fact, sine I own both a TDI and a 2.5L 2006 Jetta, the TDI gets 215 miles more per tank in the city and almost 325 miles more if all highway. 400 miles is a stretch for the 2.5L, 730 miles have been recorded more than once on the TDI. Furthermore, NOX emissions will be handled in 2007+ models, almost with S02.

2006 TDI - 3 wheel bearings go two weeks after warranty expires.

Outerboot after three weeks.

Anti skid system goes after four weeks.

Unknown to me due to our cold weather - compressor has never worked - warm weather here now.

No air-warning light about burnt out bulb - on all the time - no burnt out bulb.

Drivers side do-me light - goes on for a second - then goes out - don't know what's going next.

But 57 miles per gallon Canadian in Summer

47 minimum winter and minus 30 f. is common
