2006 Volkswagen Jetta GLI 2.0L turbo Gasoline

Summary:

A legitimate sports sedan that is unmatched at this price!

Faults:

Nothing has gone wrong with the car at all.

The car is the picture of dependability.

I maintain my car, I put premium gas in it, and I change the oil regularly according to the VW maintenance schedule.

General Comments:

The car is AWESOME. Every time I get to wake up and drive in it, I get a grin on my face.

The lag-free response from the award-winning VW/Audi 2.0T motor is phenomenal. There is torque in any gear, and the engine is smooth and responsive.

The slick-shifting six-speed manual is crisp and much improved over previous VW shifters.

The handling is great, right out of the box, and will handle even better with aftermarket suspension modifications.

The styling of the GLI looks much better than the regular new Jetta. The honeycomb front grille and the blacked out section of the bumper look smart, and the red-stripe is a throwback to the first GTIs/GLIs.

Plaid seats = awesome.

Everyone loves this car, but no one more than I. I have owned many Volkswagens, but this one is by far my favorite. If VW gets their reliability up to par with this new round of models (and all signs point to yes) then there is no comparison with a Honda/Toyota in terms of value, fun, and driving feel.

Go VW!

Sorry, but your comment sounds like you are a VW car salesman more than a comment made by the owner. I agree that in terms of value, this car is definitely good. For the same price, you won't get the same class Japanese car. VW's interior are neat and tidy. It uses good materials for its interior. It's a good value, but for long term, Japanese cars are more reliable. It's proven. How many times have you seen 1985 Jetta on the street compared with 1985 Hondas or Toyotas?

The fact talks.

I owned 2005 Jetta. So far, it found exterior design errors and noisy start-up. The costs? Going back and forth to the service department of the dealer where I got the car. I didn't need to pay for the service. But the time & the gas that I spent while waiting for them to fix the error? a lot. That's the inconvenience that I am talking about.

2006 Volkswagen Jetta 2.5 Pkg. 2 W/NAV 2.5 Gas

Summary:

Love the car, it's awesome, but the dealer ain't so hot

Faults:

Nothing... As of yet.

General Comments:

Love the Sound System of the car, even though I have not gotten the Navigation DVD for the car yet. The car was new when I picked it up about a week ago, but the dealer did not have the DVD for the navigation?? I was very disappointed, but I'm going to pick the DVD up when it is shipped.

They are decent cars, just be prepared for a lot of expensive repairs that aren't needed on the asian competitors. If you think spending $500-1000 a year for repairs is OK, then you will love it.

Comment to the first comment made for this page: Spent more money on Japanese competitors? Are you kidding me? I spend more money on my new 2005 Jetta than a Honda Civic that I owned for 5 years.

2006 Volkswagen Jetta TDI diesel

Summary:

Exactly what I wanted

Faults:

Nothing yet.

General Comments:

Perfect fit of space, quality, features (eg Manual Transmission), and the diesel 45 MPG. The diesel puts this care in a class by itself.

However, were it not for the diesel engine I would not have purchased this car. The diesel made the choice easy.

You are right... The diesel VWs are in a class by themselves. The only other diesel car sold in the U.S. is the Mercedes. It is a shame there is no competition. If only GM, Toyota, and Nissan would put the heat on the U.S. diesel car market!

Hopefully the spike in diesel fuel price and the added cost of the TDI engine will turn out in your favor...in the long-run?

Do you have a supply of 505.01 and a VAG-COM on order?

I agree. The fuel economy and longevity of VW's diesel engine was a very strong selling point for us. We considered a hybrid, but they were too pricey. Plus we felt the hybrid technology was still unproven. If given that choice again today, we'd still opt for the VW TDI.
