1998 Volvo S70 T5 SE 2.3 turbo

Summary:

Awesome! recommend it

Faults:

Nothing!

General Comments:

We bought this car as a new vehicle and after almost 8 years the car is still like new. I was looking at getting another car and I test-drove and compared new cars on the market to my 1998 Volvo S70. There is only one word to describe Volvo - it's pretty awesome. The quality of the car, the comfortable seats and reliability is super! The audio system won award and is made by Alpine. Handling is pretty good on conners and wet pavement. The car is quiet, but do not buy Michelin tires. I recommend Toyo performance tires on it. Even German competitors, especially from of the same "age" and even new ones are not made as good as this vehicle.

As with all new cars - if you take care of it and do not treat it as a piece of metal and if you break the engine slowly, the car will last long. I do not understand some people commenting on new cars?! I wonder how they drive... There is time a nd limit for racing...

1998 Volvo S70 GLT 2.4 Litre turbo Gasoline Engine

Summary:

Read this: honest review

Faults:

Regular Maintenance

Something cracked (100 dollar repair) that would prevent the car from starting... think it was called the fuel distributer

Check Engine Light too easily tripped (45 dollars to reset)

THAT IS IT!

General Comments:

Good Car. Wonderful engine note and power.

Passing power is good as the 4-speed is quick to downshift.

Would like to see the mpg up 3-4 as it is currently 23 range.

Handles well when pushed, but dead steering feel (great for highway!) does not induce excitement around the curves

No body roll

Suspension Travel could be increased, but there is no room as the car is not very deep in the front end.

Very solid brakes

Haven't had any electrical issues

Great car for cruising on long highway trips.

1998 Volvo S70 GLT 2.4 turbo

Summary:

Comfort, safety and reliability in one

Faults:

I have had to replace the power antenna.

I have replaced one power side mirror.

Last year I replaced the electric control for the driver's side power windows locks etc.

Fog lights are a joke, and have never worked right.

General Comments:

This car is world class. It still does 0 to 60 in 6.4 seconds... it's faster than factory specs and has 112,000 miles on it.

Gas mileage is around town 23- 24, and on the road under 80 mph, 29-32.

In snow with traction control, it has always got me home or to the ski slope up some steep inclines.

It is a very comfy car to drive. I have had 2 minor tuneups, and it runs as smooth as the day I purchased it. I do use a quart of oil every 3,000 to 3,500 miles.

I would buy another...

If you have a GLT you don't go 0-60 in 6.4...sorry, that is the T5. You are just under 9 seconds.

The base S70s do 0-60 in about 9.4.

S70 GLTs make it in about 7.6.

The T-5s make it in about 6.4 (a bit faster without the slush-box).

I owned many Volvos, and I can say the S70s are the most reliable cars of all brands for 2000... The failures you have are minor compared to another brand, so why put Volvos down? Besides, those problems are not because it's a Volvo, but because it's a car, and cars need maintenance, regardless of the brand.

I am a Volvos only owner also. I think the general users forget that all cars with age have parts/components fail and that's very true if you're not maintaining any car. Plus, like all most other car manufacturers, the parts are rebranded parts for Volvo. And if you're not installed the OEM equivalent part for so called reduced costs, you're not saving any money if you have to have it done over again.
