2004 Hyundai Matrix GL 1.6 petrol

Summary:

It's fantastic!!!

Faults:

Nothing has gone wrong so far.

General Comments:

We were looking for a family car that is in between a sedan and an AUV with reasonable price. We came out with Matrix, and were very happy!!!

It has plenty of room and storage bins. Members of the family are more comfortable now when going on a long trip. With the roof rails/racks, space for luggages are not a problem anymore.

I also love the handling. I have no problems cruising the mountainous Region IV. Matrix accelerates well and is effortless at high speed. I have no problem overtaking on big buses.

Fuel consumption is OK, fueled 38 liters is enough for a 500 km distance.

The driving view is also great!!!

Bottomline, I love this car, good thing I did not believed on other reviews.

Sir. Good day. I was just looking for some reviews about the 2004 Hyundai Matrix 1.6 petrol. I'm planning to buy a second hand Matrix with a 100k odometer reading. Is it worth it? Because it's been 8 years since that model came out. Hoping for some answers.

Thanks.

2003 Hyundai Matrix GLX 1.6 petrol

Summary:

It is good value per money spent

Faults:

The factory installed battery was dead on the tenth month of owning the vehicle.

The engine vibration and noise is a bit offensive at speeds of 120 kph to 140 kph.

The factory installed tires provides a bumpy and noisy ride.

The chrome in the headlamp fixture started to bubble on the 15th month of use.

The petrol consumption is quite high with an average of 7 km/liter city driving.

CD player broke at 1 year of use.

General Comments:

The car is roomy and it maximizes the utilization of space.

The car is sluggish in low rpm, but once you go to the mid and high range its pretty good.

Suspension is stiff, which is the way I like it.

Driving position is comfortable and gives a better vantage point in terms of vision.

Dealer immediately replaces parts under warranty (battery and CD player)

I totally agree with the problems written in this review, because even I'm facing the same problem till now. I can even add some more problems of this car that it is a bumpy car, it body rust fast, engine rev up while stopping at a traffic light and moves on its own if I take the foot away from the brake pedal (Wow! A true automatic car which runs on its own).

One thing I noted is that for a 1.6 liter engine, the car consumes too much gasoline. On an average, it runs 7 kilometers per liter. Other brands with the same engine displacement can go for approximately 12 kilometers.

I am looking to purchase a car and Hyundai Matrix has been sort of my choice. I know the petrol consumption is pretty high compare to other make, but at 7km/liter is on a high side versus 11km/liter on average. Hhmmmm still considering!

I am now driving the Hyundai Matrix auto. I am very satisfied with the performance of the car. It is a good buy for anyone who is looking for a mini MPV and value-for-money. Lots of room in driver & passengers' seat. An ideal car for the family.

2004 Hyundai Matrix GLS 1.6 Gas

Summary:

Value for money

Faults:

Nothing wrong has happened since I got the car.

General Comments:

Looks small, but it seats 5 adults with any problems.

With the boot cover removed, we have space for the dog as well.

Fuel consumption isn't bad, I average 11-12kms/liter. Better than 8 on my Nissan (1.6 Auto).

Lots of room!

Good small van, but horrendous city driving mileage if you bought the 1600 automatic model. Had it for a year and nothing has gone wrong except the original Korean-made battery went dead after 8 months, but dealer replaced it without question. I wonder what model gives the claimed 11-12 kilometers per liter mileage and under what conditions.

2003 Hyundai Matrix MPV A/T 1.6 gasoline

Summary:

Good value for money in terms of space and comfort, but watch the gas consumption

Faults:

Battery started going bad after 5000 kilometers, so that even leaving dome light on for an hour discharged it to the point of a very difficult start. Dealer checked electrics and battery and replaced original Korean battery with a new one of higher capacity and quality.A

General Comments:

Stock tires, size 14, are Korean which are quite hard riding. Gas shocks which are standard are quite good and help in cornering and ride, but will eventually replace tires with softer riding ones in size 15.

Car is quite quick on the straights, but automatic transmission does lag at times.

Plenty of head and leg room, storage bins, cup and bottle holders, but wish that rear seats were removable rather than just folding forward.

Biggest problem is that this model (auto-4, 1.6 liter) is a gas guzzler, at less than 7 kilometers to the liter! Culprit could be the catalytic converter, but could not remove it or otherwise modify the engine until warranty is over, which is 36,000 kilometers or 3 years.

Mine is only 3 months old and I totally agree with what you say about the hard ride and poor fuel consumption.
