1993 Nissan Pathfinder 4x4 2.7 diesel

Summary:

A notorious underpowered smoke belcher, but a very reliable workhorse

Faults:

The quality of the original radio was not good. Couldn't play cassette tapes and the signals of the stations were choppy sometimes. It was replaced with a Ford Lynx radio in late 2002.

Circa 2001/2002 the air con started to act up, although it was only because of the freon.

One time the tail light wouldn't go off when the ignition was already turned off.

Balancing and alignment problems.

General Comments:

This was one of my uncle's cars, however we rode in it from time to time. This pickup was notoriously slow, especially when on out of town trips. Overtaking slowpokes (especially tricycles) on the highway was a struggle.

Another problem of this car was that it was a notorious smoke belcher. One time (that was early 2002 I think) along Kalayaan Avenue, this car was stopped by the ASBU for inspection. We saw lots of smoke coming out of the exhaust during the testing and it failed big time. Even the license plates weren't spared. The car was brought immediately to the repair shop.

Despite all of these things, this car was very reliable and cheap to maintain (still runs according to the LTO text). It went to Baguio and Ilocos many times. It also reached Bicol and Banawe before.

Would you buy another car from this manufacturer? Don't Know
