2006 Honda Jazz 1.4 i-DSI

Summary:

Will buy another one

Faults:

I had an accident with the car at about 60,000 km. After that, the car had intermittent electric gremlins that appeared. Electric mirror motor malfunctioned. Replaced ignition coils after car started jerking under load. Rear demister fuse blew twice.

General Comments:

Otherwise a good reliable car. The accident affected reliability to some extent.

2006 Honda Jazz 1.4i

Summary:

It is not too bad

Faults:

I am having problems with the brakes of my Jazz.

My car went in for its 10 000km service (I bought it brand new). I was told that the brakes needed skimming as I was wearing it out by braking too hard. I am a “slow” driver who never speeds, ever; therefore it was very weird for me to hear this.

The Honda dealer told me that they did the skimming for me as a favor, but that if this would happen again, then I would have to pay for it. Since then, I have been driving extra careful, only to find out that now it has happened again. My car is in for the 30 000km service.

I mentioned this while chatting to some friends, and one lady, who also bought a Honda Jazz, she experienced the same problem. Unfortunately she ended up paying R2500.00 to get it fixed.

My question therefore is whether this might be a manufacturing fault?? Maybe other people who also drive a Jazz have the same problem???

General Comments:

I would like to hear from other Honda Jazz drivers if they also have the same problem.

2006 Honda Jazz 1.4i

Summary:

This is a great car and value for money!

Faults:

The driver side electric window stuck slightly after about 3 weeks, but was taken to the dealer, but was sorted out with lubricant immediately while I was having a cup of coffee.

General Comments:

I have had my Jazz 1.4 for just over 2 months. It is the best car overall I have owned. It is built with very high quality products. I was pleased to see the boot pistons are even Showa products (used on Honda Motorcycles). I made the choice of purchasing it through this website and other surveys on the web. My fuel consumption averages on 6.6 litres per 100km with City driving, but on the four longer trips I have done it averages on about 5.7 litres per 100km.

The car handles well, but can seem a bit stiff at first. It is a bit low for offroad/ dirt road use, but I have only done about 3km on rocky dirt road and took it very slow. The suspension is great and the tyres are of high quality (Bridgestone Potenzas).

The sound system is great and doesn't skip a beat over bumps. Sounds great too! Pity it does not have an Aux jack, but does have an Aux button on the face. The dealer said it wasn't offered on this model.

I still have this car now in 2020 with over 349000 km on the clock and still going strong with no issues. I have replaced the clutch and shocks.

Wow, that's really nice to hear! I am just about to purchase the same car with 200k on the clock. Thanks for your review.

Just be aware that it all depends on how the car was maintained and used. The mileage of 349K km over around 14 years means it averaged nearly 25,000 km/year, so it does a lot of open road driving, not bumper-to-bumper urban traffic. That has quite an effect not just on the motor, but on the gearbox and chassis/suspension parts. Also, note it is a manual gearbox; for most cars, manuals tend to be quite long-lived; an automatic equivalent will need proper maintenance like servicing periodically, and when wear and tear gets to the internals, the automatics will be much dearer to fix (vs. the overall value of the car by that time and mileage).
