1989 Citroen BX RE14 1.4

Summary:

Great to drive, not so great to look at

Faults:

I had to get one rust hole welded.

General Comments:

I was really a skeptic about Citroen. The reason I got it was that I crashed my Opel and needed another car fast. The BX had no rust to speak of, except one small hole in the left front wheel housing. It was really cheap and had a well documented service book, so I thought, well, why not give it a try.

So far I have not been disappointed. I can't imagine getting more car for the money. It handles extremely well on the highway with all the comfort that, at least, I require.

I do have a few remarks:

I can't seem to quite get along with the driver seat. I've heard that there are better seats on more exclusive variants of the BX, so I will try to get a hold of at least the driver seat.

It takes a little more gas than I had heard it would. My kadett (R.I.P) was better in that respect.

I'm still trying to convince myself that it isn't one of the ugliest cars I've ever seen.

Apart from this I'm afraid I'm starting to develop tender feelings to-wards this car.

1987 Citroen BX 16 RS 1.6 90hp

Summary:

A solid car you shouldn't be afraid to buy!

Faults:

Front spoiler (fixed), brakes, exhaust, the fan, electric problems.

General Comments:

A good standard car but our car has been driven 250 kilometers every day in a year with no service! And purchased for about 500 pounds so it's good quality! Outperforms new cars in both comfort and driving ability.

1988 Citroen BX 19 GTI 16v 1.9 16v

Summary:

One of the funniest cars around and cheap!

Faults:

Exhaust system and the catalyser had some problems, the brakes too but that's easy to fix. The brake lights are weather sensitive too.

General Comments:

An awesome car! Cheap, fun, people look at it like it is a Porsche, corners like a Porsche and accelerates like a rocket! But could do with a little more torque, but who cares. A true GTI car that outperforms most new cars!

BUY ONE, YOU WON'T BE SORRY I PROMISE!!!

1990 Citroen BX 14TRE 1.4 inj.

Faults:

100.000-130.000 km: (when I have owned it)

Alternator, rear suspension bearings (it's common for them to wear out for a car which has been covering this distance, especially if it has a hook), window washer pump worn out.

Some rust, but no car can stand the climate here in Sweden anyway. Must cars don't wear out, they corrode away..

General Comments:

Cheap to buy and drive, fuel consumption is approx. 6.5litres/100km. I guess you can thank the weight (920kg) and the small engine (1.4 litres, 72bhp) for that.

The ability to raise the hydropneumatic suspension height is great when using it on bad roads where many cars would be stuck hanging on the grass in the middle.
