2000 Audi A6 SE 2.4 petrol

Summary:

Still a good car

Faults:

Quite a lot, but most was the maintenance and replacement parts expected of age. The car has never left me stranded or broken down, but I do keep on top of things (serviced on time, battery changed before it gets too old, belts changed, etc.) Small oil leak now, but not serious. Bodywork wise the car is incredible for its age, not a mark on it!

General Comments:

For 23 years old, this A6 is an incredibly modern and comfortable car. I bought it used years ago and although expensive, it has been worth every penny and stood the test of time. It's silver, as pretty much every car seemed to be at the turn of the millennium.

2.4 petrol with the automatic performs very well, but not that economical at 26 MPG on average.

Exterior of the car looks as modern as any Audi, but the interior has a very 1990's feel, but that is OK - I love this era of cars because it is when things were getting really good and not too over complicated. Spacious, and all round vision is superb and the seats are still very comfortable. Electric everything on this SE model.

In conclusion I wanted a big, comfortable, reliable and traditional saloon and that is exactly what I got, it is like the perfect car for me, and see no reason to replace it yet even though it is getting a lot older now. To keep costs down you really need to know an Audi specialist if things go wrong however - I would advise against going to an Audi main dealer with a car of this age.

2000 Audi A6 1.8T SE 1.8 turbo

Summary:

Fantastic used buy

Faults:

None whatsoever.

General Comments:

I chose this car as I had a baby on the way and wanted something with plenty of room, decent performance and a quality marque.

I initially wanted an A4 Avant, but a car dealer suggested the A6 as the boot space was huge and the price was much more reasonable - I would pass this advice on to anyone with a young family.

I bought mine privately at 18 months old with 9,000 miles on the clock for half the price of a new one. I have now owned it for 3 years and nothing at all has gone wrong. I have never owned a car that is so reliable.

The ride is very comfortable on long journeys and there is plenty of room as you would expect from a car of this size.

The interior is typical Audi; high quality functional materials.

Dealer servicing is reasonable when compared to Mercedes and even Renault. Also,it doesn't need that many of them.

The car really comes into its own on the motorway, where it is quiet and sufficiently fast to get you out of trouble. I get 32 to the gallon in general and I'd definitely buy another.

2000 Audi A6 Avant 4.2i

Summary:

Quicker than a BMW M5, with ultimate luxury

Faults:

Exhaust needed repairing after excessive speed over a road hump.

Rear off side brake light needed repairing as an intermittent fault was detected.

CD changer kept skipping. Needed a new anti-shock mechanism installed.

General Comments:

I have never not beaten a car off the lights with this beast. Only last week a BMW 530i pulled up and as the lights hit green, I kicked the 4.2 into action and left him for dust.

Looks can be deceiving, but then you notice the small 4.2 badge on the back and as I'm disappearing into the distance you realize why.

Tinted windows, and a great quiet leather interior give you a great ride. While wide Pireli tyres give this A6 Avant great road holding too. Took a tight corner at over 35mph and didn't even hear the wheels losing grip.

I couldn't have asked for a better car. And if you are going to get an estate and want to keep your credibility, then this is definitely the one for you.

Sorry pal, I don't know what M5 you know, but I know a 5.0 V8 with 400bhp... 0-60 in 5.5 seconds and 155mph (limited)... Do your sums again or buy an S6... but guess what? You will still be looking at the back of an M5.

Yeah, please let me know where exactly I stated that it was an M5 I beat off the lights? If you look you'll see that it was a 530i OK?

And trust me a 4.2 really can beat a 530i off the lights.
