1998 Citroen Saxo VTR 1.6i petrol

Summary:

VTR - a chuckable charger!!!

Faults:

Only had this car for two days but already found...

1. The seats don't lock properly once adjusted.

2. Tyres occasionally rub on the arches (or something else) when turning near or full lock...

3. Engine fan comes on too regularly ! Is this normal?

4. Brakes are somewhat poor, but suspect my discs are a bit corroded after sitting out in dealers yard for too long.. maybe the new brake pads need to settle in??

General Comments:

The handling is awesome...

This bad boy was built to be chucked into corners and terrorize B roads!

The steering is incredibly responsive and inspires confidence..

Acceleration is fairly good but requires higher revving on occasion.

The acquisition of a VTS is imminent!

1998 Citroen Saxo VTR 1.6i

Summary:

High performance, low insurance!!!

Faults:

Only had the car for 6 weeks, but have had a one or two problems.

Overheated when I was driving home from the dealer, no coolant whatsoever when I checked it!!! Apparently it had just had a major service?? Found that there was a small leak, have had to top-up twice since.

Power steering was making a strange noise, topped up the fluid but still makes a little noise, getting it checked out.

General Comments:

Like most of the VTR comments, I have to agree it handles so well.

Insurance group 7!! Brilliant.

Very nippy in and around the city.

Silver looks the business!!

A little disappointed with the lack of extras... no glove box light... no electric mirrors etc.

All in all, a big thumbs up!!!

1998 Citroen Saxo VTR 1.6i

Summary:

Reasonable priced little car, not so much go though

Faults:

Sun roof seal leaking.

Early ignition diagnostic problems.

Poor paint finish in places.

General Comments:

Not a bad little car. Not so sure about the performance as I ride a big bore motorcycle and only a super car can match that kind of go!

Quite nice handling, but can't be pushed too hard in the wrong conditions.

Not happy with the paint finish, especially on the plastic.

How were your ignition problems solved?

I have a 106 Rallye that nobody seems capable of fixing, so any suggestions would be gratefully received.

1998 Citroen Saxo VTR 1.6 8v petrol

Summary:

A high performance bargain!!!

Faults:

1. The fog lights cloud up.

2. The interior light leaks water sometimes from the seal of the aerial.

General Comments:

A superb car, for a 18 year old lad, there's not much quicker you can get for the money. The handling is fantastic and agile. In all, I love it!!!

Bet it's not as quick as my AX GT.. it eats VTR's for breakfast.. and it only cost £800.

1998 Citroen Saxo VTS 1.6 16v

Summary:

Cannot be compared to a Nova

Faults:

It suffered from a glitch in the BRAIN which caused it to stall when ticking over.

General Comments:

Its good for 135mph and I know of a man who builds superchargers for them, I have heard of a 30% power increase.

1998 Citroen Saxo VTR 1.6 8v petrol

Summary:

Fantastic fun, brilliant handling, slightly dodgy build quality

Faults:

Tracking is permanently off.

Airbag light keeps flashing having been checked 4 times.

Driver's door makes weird noises!

Wheel arches popped off in wet weather (common problem apparently).

General Comments:

You cannot beat this car!! Fantastic handling, performance and comfort make it the best car in its class and the class above!! :-)

Running costs can be high, but that's only because it turns you into a lead-foot!

1998 Citroen Saxo VTR 1.6i petrol

Summary:

Amazing, well done Citroen!!!!!

Faults:

Brought the car secondhand from a dealer. Kept jumping out of fifth gear. Dealer promptly gave me a courtesy car and replaced the gear.

No other problems.

General Comments:

What a car!!!!

Goes like the wind. Acceleration is amazing, just keeps going. Hard to think that there is a faster model.

Corners like it is on rails. Well designed car that so far has been very reliable.

1998 Citroen Saxo VTR 1.6 8v petrol

Summary:

Pure class, pure fun, nothing comes close

Faults:

Nothing.

General Comments:

This car combines great performance, with economy and style. Anything else in its class can't compete, and they've tried!!

Makes top of the range Polo, Fiesta and Corsa's all look very pathetic.

I don't think so sunshine! Have you even looked as far as the Fiesta Zetec-S? Clearly not otherwise you would not be making such absurd comments such as "nothing competes"!

The handling, ride economy and speed on the Zetec-S are quite simply far superior to the Saxo VTR.

Well I'd have to agree, but only to a certain extent as I drive a Metro Turbo which cost me 300 quid (work out that for value for money) from the Loot, and I've uprated the boost, lowered the CR and made a home made exhaust, and it annihilates any VTS, VTR, Zetec, even runs with a Prelude V-tec.

Standard car makes 94 bhp, weighs 100 kg less than a VTR, work out what a tuned one does.

Slick.
