1987 Fiat Panda 750 L 750

Summary:

Bargain, V. Reliable Engine and a fun drive!

Faults:

The Exhaust started blowing at around 73000miles and had that replaced.

Driver seat is worn, just general wear really, no cigarette burns or anything.

One clip on Air Filter box snapped due to my ignorance, forcing the clip shut when I hadn't put it on properly! Unlike other pandas, this one has no rust! Excellent condition!

General Comments:

For a 750cc, I must say I'm surprised at it's performance. Top speed of 87mph, foot to the floor. Easiest car ever to park in the smallest of spaces. The interior decor is absolutely disgusting, but it's a sweet car, does the job nicely at 50mpg+

I have to disagree with your comment about the interior design being absolutely disgusting!

My 1994 FIAT Panda is dark metallic blue and there is plenty of painted metal inside. It is beautifully complimented with contrasting blue, green and yellow stripy fabric, far friendlier and original than any matt black plastic in all other cars.

I must agree with the first poster - I just bought a 1988 Panda in France for Euro 500. It needed a new jack, wheel brace, battery and top hose. It's the two hooded (a must in le sud) 750 cl estivale model. My wife loves it - but there's still plenty of work to do yet. Mainly the interior fittings and bodywork.

1987 Fiat Panda 4x4 1.1 petrol

Summary:

Able off-roader that's good fun on road

Faults:

Main jet dropped out of the carb. Still ran quite well, though the MPG plummeted.

CV gaiter split.

Door bottoms rusted.

Brake master cylinder went.

General Comments:

The faults listed above are not complaints - they're just what you expect from a cheap, aging Italian car.

For a car so good off-road, the Panda is brilliant on the tarmac. While a bit noisy on motorways, it buzzes about happily in town traffic and pulls away far faster than you'd think.

Parts are cheap, servicing is simple and you get more individuality than with a Fiesta or Nova.

Land Rover drivers can't work out why there's a shopping trolley following them.

1987 Fiat Panda CL Bianco 1.0

Summary:

A great choice for shorter and town journeys

Faults:

A bit of rust at the rear seat belt mounts.

Tailgate tends to close automatically (usually on my head!) in cold weather.

General Comments:

This has got be the cheapest car I have ever owned & run. It does 50mpg regularly.

Gear box is a bit flaky but excellent at nipping away.

For a small car there is a lot of space in the front.

1987 Fiat Panda 4x4 1.0 F.I.R.E

Summary:

An absolute bargain, see one and buy it! They are getting rarer

Faults:

Front brakes seized.

Boot lock won't unlock properly.

General Comments:

I bought this car to see me through when I had to give up my company car.

I have seen a few around over the years and always thought about getting one for a laugh but they are seriously good off road (this is from being an ex Discovery/Range Rover owner), good on fuel and cheap to run.

My other cars are a 1990 BMW 535i, 1984 BMW 318i, 1999 Ford Ka, the Panda 4x4 and another standard Panda I bought for spares.

It would eat the Ford Ka for breakfast in a race, is just about as comfortable, is easier to park and almost as cheap to run.

The brakes seized a while ago after an off road expedition but I think this is because I didn't clean all the mud out from them, so beware.

They are still available in Italy but don't bother trying to get one through Fiat Italy as they will just fob you off, something to do with all the UK cheap exports of all their other cars.

For a 13 year old car it's fairly good. It's never let me down. It starts first time. Cheap insurance and cheap parts.
