1994 Ford Mondeo GLX Auto 2.0 petrol

Faults:

Nothing. Did have concerns about steering pulling especially under braking, but tracking and tyre wear show no alignment problems. I believe "they all do that" - at least the early ones?

General Comments:

Brought the car from a main dealer at 3yrs / 36,000 and have done 5,500 miles now. Love the auto, though you do pay a price in performance and economy for a wide-ratio 4-speed box. I do find that the suspension is a bit harsh. All in all, though, its a very competent, well-equipped family car.

1994 Ford Mondeo LX 1.8 turbo diesel

Faults:

Lots of things, ranging from loose brake pads, to 'self-unlocking' doors because, presumably of a faulty central locking circuit. Other things include turbo pipe coming off, faulty warning lights, failed radio/cassette, doors failing to close. Classic was entire mud cover falling from under the car while on a French Autoroute.

General Comments:

Car wouldn't be bad if the dealer paid me any attention at all. Every problem (including faulty brakes) has been mine to prove, rather than theirs to investigate. Forget the customer is always right...more like the customer has to prove the garage wrong! Hence I won't buy another Ford.

1994 Ford Mondeo GLX 2.0 petrol

Faults:

Replaced exhaust mount due to excessive knocking.

Front electric window relay packed up.

Front suspension bush split.

Rear wash on wash/wipe stopped working.

General Comments:

Generally I have been impressed with the Mondeo - especially its handling. Get it out on a winding B road and it feels like a rear wheel drive car.

Unfortunately Ford's questionable build quality has let them down. The reliability and running costs are low because we are surely not only talking about whether the car starts on a cold morning and how much petrol you put in? The car was 2 years old when I purchased it from a main dealer (Stormont Ford, Tunbridge Wells, Kent) and in the first year I spent approx £800 getting things fixed, all of which was not covered under the warranty. Not really acceptable for a car that was less than three years old with a far less than average mileage. The dealer was just not interested hearing about the problems I was having. A split suspension bush after 35k miles seems ridiculous to me especially since a full service was performed before delivery. When will I need to replace the other side?

The rear washer has failed on every car I have owned, and it is usually just a blockage in the end part where the water is expelled on to the rear screen. just take out the bit of plastic and clean it with a needle:then it does for another 20k :)

I had a 1994 Mondeo TD GLX with 168k on, and it was great... apart from me not changing the cambelt...BANG!

Shame, decent car, I would have still had it now, no doubt passing 180k.

I too have had far too many quality problems with Mondeos. Ford need to get their act together.

Japanese and Korean product are far less hassle free and easier to own.

1994 Ford Mondeo LX Estate 1.8 turbo diesel

Faults:

Nothing at all, so far (we have only owned it since May 1st).

General Comments:

This car was bought as a replacement for a 6-year old Montego TD estate. It is much more comfortable (particularly for my Wife to drive, due to adjustable seat height and adjustable steering column) and quieter, but is not quite as fuel-efficient (we get about 40-45mpg where we used to get 45-50 from the montego).

So far, we have been very pleased with the car, and would definitely buy another.

Good news for me then!

Surely any vehicle would surpass a montego!!?
