2000 Honda Accord SE 1.8 Vtec

Summary:

Pathetically slow and shoddy

Faults:

I have had the car for a year and I have had several problems such as splitting on the rear bumpers which cost me over £500 to repair. The seats are to be honest absolute crap they are becoming very baggy and starting to tear. The engine is desperatly under powered for a 1.8 and is very slow the car is claimed to do over 120 but I carnt push it passed 95. The cabin is also very noisy and whistles at high speeds and a strong draft comes through the doors. It is shoddy workmanship for what I payed I was expecting a car as good as my last one. I have totally lost hope in this car. Now there is a new one out this one looks really old and dated the interior is so shoddy and it looks like a car from the ice age. Sorry Honda your cars are junk.

General Comments:

This car is an out burst of intreging reprisal and I cannot state more clearly how pathetic this car is it carnt stand a chance against the likes of Mercedes and BMW. It is slow under powered, awfully built and is now starting to show its age as an old mans car like the Rover 800.

This review sounds like a wind up to me, probably a Renault, Fiat or Citroen owner.

My Honda Accord will do 90mph in 3rd, some people don't realise you have to rev the nuts off these engines to get the best out of them, as for saggy seats, and ice age interior... are we talking about the same car? I think the seats are firm and supportive and the interior ergonomically perfect.

2000 Honda Accord SE 1.8

Summary:

A very comfortable family car

Faults:

The clock light bulb failed at 18,000 miles.

General Comments:

This car is the best car I have owned. It cruises effortlessly at motorway speeds and is quiet at high speeds on most road surfaces. The cruise control is, for me, a very useful feature. The car is also easy to drive around town.

Although coming up to 3 years old it is as smooth as when I bought it, but an irritating rattle has just started in the nearside front door.

Disappointments are few, but include a poor Pioneer Radio/Cassette player and a rear screen heater that is extremely slow to do its job. If you are tall then headroom is limited under the sunroof and you will leave little rear leg room if you have the front seats fully back. However the front seats are comfortable and have an excellent range of adjustment.

My local dealer has been excellent in every way.

2000 Honda Accord SE Executive 2.0

Summary:

Heartily recommended as it does everything so well - I'm getting another next year.

Faults:

Drivers window squeaks & binds slightly when the weather is very hot.

Black paintwork always looks dirty, but this is a general car thing and not model specific. It would have been nice to have more colour options when I got it.

General Comments:

A very comfortable & easy car to drive, around town and on long distances. Great handling when pushed. Simple to operate steering wheel mounted cruise control is just brilliant.

VTEC engine is perfection itself albeit a tad thirsty when pushed. Very quiet, refined & smooth. Just keep above 4000 RPM to get the VTEC to kick in when you REALLY want to motor. Top speed 130mph with cruise control on.

Electric everything, & controls easy to reach & operate, but a little dull in appearance. Standard internal trim is also a bit bland. Next time I'll specify leather seats & climate control instead of straight air conditioning.

Extremely reliable car, just drive it with no worries.

Only thing that lets it down is purely aesthetic - the standard steel wheels look a bit small & weedy.

Don't buy a Mondeo or Vectra without trying one of these first.
