1994 Honda Civic VTi 1.6 DOHC

Summary:

A super buy if you can find a good bargain, but make sure you research it first!!

Faults:

So far car seems to be going OK (touch wood!). I have been reading other reviews and the signs are moderately positive, just little niggles like rattles etc. Mine does not yet rattle.

It had a full Honda service history which impressed me, I would say the average price of each service was about £150. It was serviced at almost obsessive intervals of only 4000k. Fantastic, hope I keep up the good work!

General Comments:

From a Pug309 which rolled like a simulator to a smooth impressive ride that rivals most cars I have been in of 'higher' status.

It is fast and fun. When the pickup really hits at about 5200rpm the car takes of like a rocket, best bit is that because it revs so high you can really push the engine and stay in the faster gears for longer. Its my new baby.

1994 Honda Civic VTi 1.6 16v DOHC VTEC petrol

Summary:

A fast and fun car with a great engine sound-track

Faults:

Nothing.

Car came with full service history from a Honda dealer, which is almost mandatory for an engine like this.

General Comments:

Come on... 60mph in just over 7 seconds, a ton in around 20, and an engine that revs to 8000rpm! What else do you want?

I'm fed up with hearing "there's not much torque!" When will people understand what DOHC VTEC is all about. Power & revs! This monster thrives on revs, if you can't bear to scream a car round to atleast 6000rpm look elsewhere! But revving it that hard is no chore and you'll never tire of the sound that fabulous engine makes.

Handling is good too.

Agree totally. Real world performance with 36mpg+ economy and legendary Honda reliability adds up to a very practical hot hatch.

I am now a complete Honda VTEC convert. Fantastic engine sound. A car that comes alive when you want it to, and delivers 35 mpg most of the time!

Looking forward to the legendary Honda reliability and dealer support.

My 2.0 1992 Celica 182 is too thirsty, so I have been researching other cars and am glad that I have discovered the VTEC Civic Vti. I can't wait to buy one, everybody rates them very highly and I'm looking forward to the sound after 5200 rpm! :) I think I'll be wearing some tight underpants on the test drive! :)

1994 Honda Civic VTi 1.6 petrol

Summary:

Best Civic shape of all!

Faults:

No faults to report as yet!

General Comments:

The handling is very predictable, although perhaps not as sharp as my previous vehicle (Citroen ZX 16V).

Acceleration is quick up to 5800rpm, then the valve timing changes and it becomes very rapid.

Dash is plain but functional, and the seats are well shaped (although my 6'3", 20 stone mate is too big for them).

1994 Honda Civic VTi (JDM) 1.5 SOHC VTEC

Summary:

Great value pocket rocket!!

Faults:

A few very minor electric niggles came with the car, but nothing that takes away from the driving experience as yet, only had it 2 weeks!!

General Comments:

A great value Japanese import with 70,000 miles that still feels very well screwed together.

It's a hatch-back that looks the part with a classic shape.

Damn this car is fun to drive! Revs to 7200 rpm, makes a great sound and has the acceleration to go with it.

It's got a limited slip diff for those winding roads and ABS is a reassuring extra on this car.

All for under £5000IR.

Not much room in the boot though?!

1994 Honda Civic ESi 1.6 16v

Summary:

Classic, sporty, reliable and fun

Faults:

Not a thing!

General Comments:

Excellent, fun to drive, incredibly reliable, classic lines unlikely to be dated..... a little lacking in grunt when you really want it.

Dealers can be expensive so always shop around. Keep the revs below 5,000 rpm and get good mpg. Or go above that, into the VTEC zone and hear the engine scream as it surges towards the red line.

1994 Honda Civic ESi 1.6

Faults:

New rear discs fitted at 100k miles.

General Comments:

This car has done 111,000 miles without a hiccup. Has run 10,000 miles between services (naughty naughty) without a noticeable drop in oil level!

Ride is getting a bit bumpy - may need a new set of shock absorbers soon.

Engine very willing but needs to be pushed hard for top performance.

1994 Honda Civic VTi 1.6

Faults:

Read brake calipers seized and discs worn although 60K miles covered.

Nothing else!!

General Comments:

A brilliant car. Previously had a Civic 16i-16 (DOHC) which was fast and furious but this one is just fast. Insurance high but what do you expect! Only criticism is that luggage moves around on the flat rear space and when both rear seats down look out!

1994 Honda Civic VTi 1.6 DOHC VTEC petrol

Faults:

Driver side central locking motor had to be replaced and the sun roof fails to open when the seals are wet, due to very tight seals around the moving parts. Which is probably a good thing.

General Comments:

Incredibly fast car and if you keep the revs below 4800 you'll get fantastic fuel economy. Very difficult to find used.

I owned the HX in the states, but it was SOHC, the DOHC really makes a difference.

1994 Honda Civic ESi 1.6 petrol

Faults:

Refused to start once because of a flat battery. Nothing else.

General Comments:

Dealer service good but expensive. VTEC engine allows 8,200 rpm gearchanges! Good performance above 5,200 rpm, can feel ordinary below that figure. Overall highly recommended.
