2000 Renault Scenic dci RXE 1.9 dCI

Summary:

Good idea spoilt by appalling customer service from the dealer and Renault UK

Faults:

Gearbox noisy from new - replaced.

Wiper motor noisy.

Sunroof didn't close properly.

Engine needed taking out for a seal replacement at the first service.

Clutch started slipping.

Clutch cable binding.

Clutch pedal broke.

Diesel injection pump leaked - needed a total replacement.

New gearbox mountings fitted.

Gear change noisy.

Dash rattled horrendously.

Soft seats induced back problems.

General Comments:

Renault has ZERO commitment to customer satisfaction, despite all the claims.

"That's what the warranty is for" is all Renault HO were prepared to offer.

5 weeks at the dealer (at the last attempt) and still not sorted - dealer did not attempt to contact me to update on (no) progress, neither did Renault UK.

Renault take NO responsibility for the poor dealer service and work quality saying it is a dealer matter.

Sold car out of frustration at a loss of £6,000 in 1 year, the dealer would not buy the car either!

I have to agree with your comment on Renault dealers and their attitude.

They appear clueless, allied with the inability to return ANY of your telephone calls.

I have an on going issue with a faulty rear washer, I had dropped by my local dealer last week 30/12/02 to find why it's taking so long, it now stands at 8 weeks.

(it's quicker than phoning - as described they don't return calls!) - I was assured that I would contacted... and here I am writing this one week later!

I'm pulling my hair out... i completely sympathize with your plight.

2000 Renault Scenic RXE 2.0 16v

Summary:

A superb small family car

Faults:

Rear brakes stick when reversing (dealer unable to cure).

Rear washer motor failed at 8000 miles.

Opening rear window failed after 1 week.

General Comments:

The car is very quick - but high revs are required to make the most of the engine.

Handling not as good as the Zafira.

Not very economical (average 29mpg).

Love the car! It has a good level of equipment, is comfortable and very airy inside. We are considering another now in the new Privilege + trim, but with automatic transmission.

Don't buy the automatic!!

Renault just don't seem to know how to make good autos and I've heard of countless problems on auto Scenics.

The Auto 1.6 RXE 2000 average 36MPG. Only defect 2 Ignition coils failed at 26K replaced under warranty, and another 1 at 42K at a cost from AA at £52, The AA does carry them as a service spare in their vans. We like it as a family car.

2000 Renault Scenic RXE 2.0

Summary:

It is fast, comfortable, reliable and very roomy

Faults:

Nothing at all - 8000 miles in 4 months with no problems at all.

General Comments:

We have three children and the triple back seat is a boon - lots of room and fewer fights.

Performance is good as long as you keep the revs up, but we are disappointed with the fuel consumption. We cannot get better than 32mpg.

We use the car for long motorway journeys, with five passengers and a full load of luggage - so far it has performed perfectly.

2000 Renault Scenic RXE 1.6

Summary:

Like our house on wheels

Faults:

Some condensation developed in the rear offside light cluster.

Rear tailgate is not completely flush with the bodywork.

General Comments:

An excellent family car, with good visibility and a high driving position that makes you feel good on the road.

Long distance journeys have become enjoyable again, and there is plenty of space to store drinks, food, umbrellas etc.

Was prepared to import this vehicle, however my local dealer matched the price I was quoted for an import on-line, I was amazed! (And they delivered in four weeks rather than 12 weeks for an import)

2000 Renault Scenic RXE 1.6

Summary:

Love it to death

Faults:

Required a replacement rear seat belt after it jammed. Renault wouldn't replace it as the car was 1 month out of warranty, they sent me vouchers instead, strange move!

General Comments:

Would buy another tomorrow, my friends are now buying them in droves, of course we are all buying imports! At £3000 cheaper.

Update 15/6/2001 Scenic still the best, no hassles, dead reliable, does 42mpg with the air-con on, and the neighbours now have one as well! Nice one Renault.

Update to the above, just bought a new 1.6 Dynamique.

The fuel gauge is faulty and it has the old Scenic problem of the front wing sitting out from the headlight. I am awaiting for my local dealer to fix them both, three weeks so far. Apart from that, we still reckon that the car is the bee's knees!!
