1999 SAAB 9-3 SE Convertible 2.0L turbo

Summary:

Hopefull!!

Faults:

Won't start. Doesn't even turn over!

General Comments:

Had it for a week as of today. All fine till I tried to start it yesterday!! Nothing - engine wouldn't even turn over. All display panels lit up, seat belt sign and ding working, but just dead. It's probably best if I leave a comment later when the mechanic's been!!!

Apart from that, when the top's down it looks fantastic, and for the little time I drove it, it was fine.

Just a quick update. The mechanic called round last evening, told me it was just the battery that was flat, so jump leads out and hey presto it fires up straight away. So took the car for a drive to put some charge in battery and all's good so far. This morning it started first turn, so decided to take it to the local MOT station I use, and asked him to just check for the dreaded bulkhead crack!!!! And fantastic news, not a sign of it, so it's straight on eBay and order a bracket and brace for it. After all, prevention is better than cure as they say.

If the engine doesn't turn and all the lights are on, it probably is the starter. Shouldn't be too much of a headache for you, hopefully!

Been a month of ownership now, and no problems with starting since my first post.

Firstly I put on a steering rack and brace kit; what a difference that makes. Then I saw a dreaded puddle under the rear passenger side by the back wheel - the dreaded leaky rams. So found a set of four on eBay, and fitted them this morning. A bit awkward, but job done, so now all's good. If anyone needs to know anything about fitting them themselves, just give me a shout, I'll be pleased to help.

I agree. I own a 1999 Saab convertible. Great car, great performance, great looks and lots of fun.

Now that a year has gone by, I wonder if the number if issues this reviewer had is still at "zero".

Just saying, because this person wrote the review after only putting on 3000 miles on the car, and no updates since January 2011.

1999 SAAB 9-3 S Convertible 2.0L

Summary:

I love it, it's different

Faults:

Oil filtration tray.

Check engine light comes on.

Uneven tyre wear (front)

General Comments:

The car looks fabulous in cosmic blue, tan leather interior, 4 spoke alloys.

It's fantastic on a summers day, it seats 4 comfortably.

It's nice with the hood on, but a different car all-together with the hood down, a real headturner.

Winter is a different story, on a windy day it's like driving a tent on wheels with the buffeting.

1999 SAAB 9-3 2.0 petrol

Summary:

Classy, understated car!

Faults:

One of the headlamps bulbs has gone!

General Comments:

I've never really been all that interested in cars, and to be honest was a little resentful about the prospect of parting with my hard-earned cash for a commuting vehicle - especially as most of the cars in my price range (Focuses, Golfs) are fairly bland looking. That's why I am still delighted with my Saab 9-3.

I've had the car for 3 months now and it's been great. I think it's a really classy and cool car in an understated, slightly sophisticated way! As a guy in my late 20's, I always cringe when I see office worker/executive types flying around in old BMW's thinking they're the business! The SAAB is much cooler and far less ostentatious, which is why I like it so much.

It's extremely comfortable and people always comment on its roominess. I haven't had any problems with it mechanically so far at all and it always starts first time. It also feels safe and sturdy. I've also been pleasantly surprised as it's pretty economical considering its 2L petrol engine. It gives and extremely smooth and quiet ride, but the engine can really pack a punch as well.

I'd struggle to say anything bad about the car (so far anyway!) Perhaps it doesn't always handle all that well, though unless you're planning to rally it, this shouldn't be a huge concern!
