2002 Alfa Romeo 156 Twin Spark 2.0 petrol from Chile

Summary:

An Italian masterpiece

Faults:

I bought this car new, so those are my first impressions. Anyway, nothing has gone wrong.

General Comments:

After my reliable Fiat Marea, I wanted a better Italian car. The 156 was a good option, in a market where most other cars look all the same.

This car is a masterpiece. Is a serious head turner. People go back to see what model is and how the rear doors open.

Handling is superb, well above my limited driving abilities.

The dashboard is racy, with good plastics. The dials are a nice touch.

The engine sound is a dream. Sometimes I turn off the radio just to hear it scream over 3500 rpm!! No other drivers can or want to catch me in a stoplight.

Surely, this is the car of my life: I bought it with great sacrifice. For the first time, I think having an Alfa is not a pain.

It's a true alternative to those cold and soulless German cars, especially Audis.

Keep the car clean. This beauty deserves it.

Thanks Alfa!

2002 Alfa Romeo 156 2.0 T.Spark 2.0 from Guatemala

Summary:

You get a lot for your money with this baby

Faults:

Battery stop working just like that, the dealer replace it the same day.

General Comments:

Great overall performance. It's fast and it handles great, but don't espect it to do something under 3,000 RPM.

The engine sounds like music.

It's a little hard to get a comfortable position at first, but once you get used to it it's very comfortable.

2002 Alfa Romeo 156 Sportwagon 2.4 JTD (110 kW) from Germany

Summary:

The 2.4 diesel is the better Alfa!

General Comments:

I've had the Alfa 156 Sportwagon from my dealer to substitute for my 146 1.8 T-Spark - some idiot crashed right into it, and the repair will take at least a week.

The 2.4 JTD diesel engine has been a revelation to me: Fast, responsive, powerful right away from the bottom of the rev band. Quite fuel-efficient too, only 6.5 litres/100 km. The only drawback: The diesels do not not have half as nice a sound as their petrol-driven counterparts. Top speed of nearly 215 km/h is acceptable (remember: there is no speed limit on German motorways! :-) but other manufacturers' diesels do much better.

The road handling is typical for Alfa: bumpy and rough when driving slowly, acceptable on motorways and irresistible on country roads with bends and sweeps.

Build quality is still light years away from Mercedes' or Audi's: left passenger rear door rattles, rear suspension produces noises, humming noise from the dashboard, too.

Despite the little flaws I believe that my next car will be an Alfa 156 Sportwagon with a 2.4 litre diesel engine.

2002 Alfa Romeo 156 selespeed 2.0 ts from Thailand

Summary:

Cool

Faults:

There's something potentially wrong with the Air-conditioning system. As a result, there's always fog on the front windscreen, which is very annoying.

I've used the Selespeed type gearbox. When I pushed on in City mode, the computer didn't change gears smoothly.

General Comments:

Very good performance. I love it. I've beaten a lot of others cars such as Audi A4, BMW 323, Evolution VI and some others. It's really cool.

I love the Selespeed system. I've had a lot of fun with driving it. You have to try one.

Owning and driving an Alfa Romeo 156 is great and puts a big smile on any owner's face! :) But - there are some things you should watch out for. But overall, Alfa Romeo represents passion and pure driving fun...

Selespeed system is way too difficult to operate. I prefer good ol' manual or a good 4-speed automatic. Otherwise, 156 is nice mid-priced car. Not very reliable and preforms poorly in winter conditions, but well, it never meant to beat Humvee.

2002 Alfa Romeo 156 Twin Spark 1.6 from UK and Ireland

Summary:

Heart stopping, breathtaking and magical

Faults:

Nothing.

General Comments:

The performance for such a small engined car is breathtaking to say the least.

The handling is extremely precise.

The interior feels durable and having driven various BMW's seems almost comparable.

However, none of the BMW range comes close to the beautiful styling of this car and it can only be said that this truly is an Italian masterpiece that will remain timeless.

An excellent executive car that is worth its price. Driving this car gives you the sensation that you are a Formula One driver because it is sporty and very fast with reliable road holding.

It is very reliable and needs very little attention as far as service goes.

It beauty is such that you feel proud driving this car.

Definitely a car that will always be remembered as a car that has made history.
