2000 Audi TT Quattro 1.8 T from North America

Summary:

Life is unpredictable - have fun driving- try an Audi

Faults:

Before I purchased this vehicle I knew it had some kind of issue because the computer (Electronic Control Module) was severly messed up and the dealer asked me if New York State had emissions testing? (I was buying this car out of state). I did not probe into why he asked this question. I took the car for a test drive and everything steering, brakes, and heated seats felt perfect. I bought the car and took it home to give it a second life at 107,000.

First few months of ownership- timing belt, water pump, belt replaced 107,700 miles.

Electronic Control Module was fixed to pass inspection. I was told someone put "NeuSpeed" in car and this caused the fault problems to the main computer.

General Comments:

I love my new car. It is roomy enough for one person. Two person maximum.

Heated seats are a must for anyone with lower back problems.

I drive this car daily and for my job out in the field. I have taken this car off-roading (for my job) unfortunately, with the low ground clearance of only four inches one is also going to bottom out, bruise/scrape the belly pan and cracking of the front bumper is going to be a sad end result.

But the car runs great. Low maintenance versus my last car. Don't let your repair shop sell you unnecessary services! oil changes every 5k. Car gets snow tires for the winter season and we can drive anywhere like having a sport utility vehicle except off roading is not recommended unless you have to for your job!

2000 Audi TT Coupe 1.8 turbo quattro from UK and Ireland

Summary:

A great car!!!

Faults:

Nothing major.

Fuel gauge is faulty.

New battery needed.

Stereo is not brilliant.

General Comments:

This car will make you wet your pants.

It is amazingly quick and the quattro version is like driving on a train track.

Only minus is that the suspension is very stiff so it can be uncomfortable on bumpy roads.

2000 Audi TT 1,8 Tq 1.8 turbo from Sweden

Summary:

Great design - terrible quality!

Faults:

The turbo blew twice in the first year and then again last year.

Sometimes it won't start, you just have to wait an hour or two.

The fault memory always says something is wrong with the car.

It makes some weird noises from behind the dashboard.

The headlamps never works on the left side of the car.

There is no color left on the side of the driver-seat even though it's leather.

General Comments:

Although I love the design I would never buy one of these again! It has serious problems with the quality.

Good work old chap. To drive 5000 km in three years and destroy 3 turbos is really an achievement. In my opinion, the fault is not in the car (I own one with 130000 km and no turbo problems, and I know three other owners (no problem) but with the driver which does not know how to treat a turbo car...

I agree with the previous comments, I change my oil every 5000 miles, also use throttle progressively to build boost pressure, don't stamp it down.

I agree with one of the previous comments. It's not the car, it's the owner. If you've never owned a turbo car before, than you're probably not doing what you're supposed to be, hence blowing turbos.

VAG turbos are very fragile. If some of you consider this owner to be too brutal with his car, that does not explain why these turbos don't last long in TTs, in A4s, in A3s, in Passats, in Jettas, etc... Just change to another brand. Mercedes, BMW or Lexus will be much better.

2000 Audi TT 180 1.9 from UK and Ireland

Summary:

A beautiful car

Faults:

The fuel gauge is not working- fault not yet diagnosed.

The headlamp washers packed up, though it was only a blown fuse.

Just once the driver's door could not be opened from inside the car (rather embarrassing!)

It has recently developed a 'low spot' then a 'surge' when accelerating hard in 2nd gear.

General Comments:

Although I absolutely love the car I am disappointed at the little problems I have had in just 4 months of ownership (little problems, but big bills)

I can overlook the bills as it is such a pleasure to drive, and to look at!
