U should think bout getting a petrol 3-series and you'll fall in love with it, I don't know much bout the Diesel, but I own a 1996 BMW 328i with round 20000Ms on it and I didn't have many problems, sweet car.
1.5 hours waiting is not that long, what do you expect? that there is a tow truck driving behind you all the time?

I would go for a volvo s60 2.0t. They are fast (180bhp) pretty economical for a 5cyl turbo engine (29-31mpg) they are very comfortable and luxurious and also are much cheaper than 3 series or c class. I think they are much better looking as well! I bought A 2001 y plate 2.0t two weeks ago, it has full leather,17in alloys, heated seats, electric windows, mirrors, a cd player and electronic climate control. Everything works perfectly and the car is in near perfect condition having only covered 77k. So at £3,000 (which is what I paid) i think they are much better value for money than bmw, merc, or audi a4.
