2002 BMW Z3 Roadster 3.0 LITER from North America

Summary:

The car is like a pedigree dog, pretty, but temperamental.

Faults:

The parking break fell apart causing an intense squeal.

If the car is not driven for more than 7 days the battery becomes too weak to start the car. This is due to the cars own computer drawing the battery down. BMW claims this is a normal condition.

Driver seat squeaks.

The speedometer is 5 mph. slow.

General Comments:

I have to admit, this is one of the most exciting cars to drive. It tracks like it is on rails. The seats are not as comfortable as they could be, but they are not too bad for short rides under 100 miles. The car came the sport package, The tires used in this package hold well in both wet and dry weather, put the car on snow and you have a whole new meaning to the word scary... even worse if you accidentally hit the DSC (dynamic stability control) button.

Would you buy another car from this manufacturer? No

We have the same battery problem with a Z8 purchased a few months ago. Just a few days without driving and the battery is dead. I would be curious to know what this person has done about it and if he received any assistance from BMW. Thanks in advance for your help.

Just bought a gorgeous 2.8 Z3 two days ago, perfect condition, did plenty of driving then I left it parked for a few hours and came back to find that it wouldn't start!Battery did not have enough power to start the car, can't work out whether this is due to a poor altenator, bad battery or the car over using the battery?

I must say though it is an excellent car, and a rush to drive:)

We have an 1999 2.8 and leave it in storage with the battery connected all winter, and it starts each spring as soon as you turn the key.
