1992 Chevrolet Beretta GT 3.1L V6 from North America

Summary:

Decent at low mileage, but unreliable on long trips or above 100,000 miles

Faults:

Multiple thermostats.

All the hoses.

Radiator.

Heater fan/core.

Shocks are wearing badly.

CV joint is going.

Car has been really bad on brakes.

Temp gauge.

Speedometer.

Power locks.

Engine is now leaking oil.

Seat coverings are tearing.

General Comments:

I am the third owner of this car, and when my sister drove it and the first few years I had the car it worked fine.

At about 80,000 miles I started having issues with it overheating and multiple thermostats later, the radiator finally went at about 100,000 miles.

In my opinion this makes a good kids car if the car has lower mileage. It is not reliable enough however to take on road trips etc, and it is not reliable above 100,000 miles. Since I have so many things going wrong on this car, I won't be driving it much longer.

1992 Chevrolet Beretta Basic 3.1 from North America

Summary:

For a 15 year old car it held up fairly well

Faults:

Replaced the alternator that was in the car when I bought it, in 1998. That one was a rebuilt and went out in 3 months. Bought a new one and had a friend put it in. A year later it went out too. Took it to Sears and never had a problem with it.

Replaced battery 3 times in 11 years.

Muffler/exhaust replaced in 2005.

Water pump replaced in 2005.

Fan motor replaced in 2005. Started whining loudly when turned on high. Was told the bearings were out on it.

Front seats started to tear, especially where seat belts rubbed.

Passenger side door had huge rust hole in it, but car was never in a garage and I live in Iowa.

Front plastic under molding cracked and finally fell off this year.

Motor for driver's side window went out in 1998, never bothered to fix it.

ABS light always on. Don't know why.

Seal around driver's side window went out and let water in when in the car wash.

Power steering just started to give out.

General Comments:

Engine very reliable. Started even on below zero days.

Transmission never gave me a problem.

Handled very well on all road conditions.

Great gas mileage.

Comfortable seats.

Basic maintenance inexpensive; brake replacement, tires, etc.

Body styling is sporty.

Has well over 120,000 miles. Not sure of exact number because I no longer have the car to check it.

Would still be driving it if husband hadn't hit road debris, putting a hole in the oil pan, causing the engine to seize up. Mechanic said hole was size of golf ball. Oil drained out very quickly.

Bought the car at age of 19. Will be turning 30 soon and am going to miss my car dearly.

I understand your pain! My first love was a 1991 beretta!!!

Badly his life terminated in a rear bumper of a vw golf 69mph to 0! Really good security device I've got nothing instead of my heart broken... sniff... Real funny to drive car and I miss it a lot. but my 79 trans am allow me to forget a bit!!

1992 Chevrolet Beretta GT 3.1L V6 from North America

Summary:

Very good, buy it

Faults:

I've had a "SES" light on consistently since I've had the vehicle. I'm a state certified mechanic, and I checked the codes, and they we're for the EGR valve (a $180 part). I replaced the valve and the "SES" light still comes on. I suspect another issue, or a computer or wiring error.

The blower motor resister doesn't work, the fan only works on 4 (High).

The windshield washer fluid pump doesn't work, and needs to be replaced.

Intermittently, the ABS light starts to flash while I'm driving.

General Comments:

Fun to drive.

1992 Chevrolet Beretta Base 2.2L from North America

Summary:

I like it!

Faults:

The temperature meter goes way up, and then goes way down. It does this over and over.

It never reaches the red-zone.

Seats and driver door are very badly worn.

General Comments:

So far, this car has proved to be pretty nifty!
