"Great bargain 4x4 SUV"

What things have gone wrong with the car?

Air conditioning sensor.

Fan blower motor.

Headliner.

Transmission rebuild at 189,000.

Thermostat.

Ignition coil.

Distributor.

Door handles.

Cruise control out.

General comments?

Even though my Blazer has been through a number of repairs now, I still recommend the vehicle. It still gets 21 mpg which is the original EPA estimate and is much better than many similar type vehicles (like a Honda Passport) on cruising on the freeway.

The 4.3 liter S10 Blazer is an excellent bargain 4X4 SUV for those of us who can't afford more than 5,000 dollars.

Hey whats up I also own a 1989 blazer it's an awesome truck and my first one also. my blower mower and heater core broke, but was an easy project to replace. I love this truck the 4 wheeler drive and the 4.3 engine runs just as strong as the 350 rocket engine I got in my car. I won't trade this truck for nothing in the world.

Blazer's are one of my favorite vehicles. I own a 1989 S-10 truck (since brand new) and it is still going strong after 198000 miles. I am in the market to get an older Blazer (1991-94 4 door 4x4) and reading these comments is very helpful. I have always wanted a Blazer and I'm this much closer to getting one. Keep on trucking. I bought a 1991 S10 Blazer 4x4 in 1994 and it now has 244,000 miles on it. Original engine, transmission, and only misc repairs (alternator, water pump, etc) I highly recommend this make/year. I hope my keeps going...b/c I will miss it if it when it stops!

I also have a 89 s10 blazer 4X4 2 door. I raised the torsion bars up 2 inches and put a 2 inch shackle lift on the back. I also put a set of 33 inch super swamper's on it. I have had a few problems out of it. I replaced the front left CV shaft, and wheel bearing. I just recently blew the 300,000 mile 4.3 up and am thinking about putting a 350 TBI in it. over all its best truck around.

I had a 1991 2dr 4X4 blazer I loved it. It had the 4.3 with 198k miles on it. It ran great. But the only bad thing was the rust on it. It basically rotted away on me, so I had to junk it.

I bought my son a 1989 S 10 Blazer 4X4 Sport digital from our neighbor for $100 in June '06. The engine was fairly shot - cam shaft is cracked, but motor still runs strong. She just sounds like a machine gun going down the road. The former owner in hast and not thinking and parked it in his back yard (a steep hill) with rear end down. Guess what - it lost third gear, then second, but still has first. The neighbor did replace the alternator, wiper motor (cracked windshield in doing so), transfer case (6 months old now). He used it as a work vehicle on the strip mines in coal country. He never changed the oil for over a year. My son and another neighbor changed it together a week after I got it for him. There's severe rust damage to both areas just beyond the door to the tail lights and PS door is all but gone. My son stripped out the carpet all seats and headliner - stunk like a coal strip-miner covered in grease and all the other fluids. He used a spray on bed liner to replace the carpet. Everyone loves it. The seats, two used tires with rims, grill, light bezels, hood and visors were replaced for only $70 - caught guy on good day. Then he bought another S 10 blazer '90 model and its the donor for the engine, transmission, and transfer case. The '89 transfer case is being shelved just in case. Our mechanic agreed to just replace all three parts together from same vehicle due to the computer problems that can occur. Others ask him why didn't we go and get a better running S10 Blazer for $1000 or less, he tells them he wouldn't have the satisfaction he's getting from helping the mechanic do the work himself (and mom). I just bought him all around custom lights for under $150 and yes the are new not used. He picked out Altezza's for the tail lights - sharp. Guess one could say this is a son and mother project Blazer. Everyone tells us that the S 10 Blazer is the best vehicle made out there for cutting through the snow. Well it will be put to the test soon as the mechanic is done. We're not telling the neighbor we got the S 10 Blazer from whats being done, my son wants to surprise him. My son gave her a name - COAL DUST. His other vehicle is WVCOAL a 2000 Chevy Venture. He can't wait to put her to the test.

I own a 1989 s10 2dr. 2wd. It is an awsome truck, but will be replacing the motor on 1/20/2007. Does any one have any comments to help out?
