2001 Chevrolet Camaro Z28 review from North America

"If you are a speed demon, look no further!"

What things have gone wrong with the car?

Nothing so far...

General comments?

OK, I just turned 18, and I have a decent job, so I decided to get myself the car that I have always dreamed of having, a Camaro, and I couldn't be more pleased of my purchase.

I love my car so much, it is fast, and fun. This car has almost an unhandleable amount of power. The 6 speed manual gearbox is so much fun to drive, but be careful in 1st gear, full throttle will result in a guaranteed tire spin. From a dead stop, I like to rev the engine up to about 3,000 RPM's and dump the clutch, and the result is breathtaking acceleration that will smoke most other cars on the road. The acceleration is so great from a stop that you almost get that powerfull lunge feeling that you get when you descend from a drop on a roller coaster. I have yet to take this car over 100 being that I've only owned it for 2 weeks, but my guess is that it will top out at around 160. The handling in this car is on par with what i'd expect a 325 hp RWD car to be. I might get stiffer suspension system in the near future being that I am a big "twisty road nut".

The only downside is that this is an expensive car for an 18 year old to drive. My car payment is 400/month and my insurance is 440/month, plus I have to pay for gas, so all in all, this car costs me around 1000 a month to run.

I've filled this thing up twice; the first time I averaged 14 mpg (drove it hard cause I was overwhelmed by the performance) and the second time I averaged 17 mpg, those are both city. I think 17mpg is a good average for the huge v8 this puppy has.

The interior in this car is alright. I really enjoy the T-tops. To tell you the truth, the seats are really uncomfortable for long drives. My friends huff and puff at me when they have to sit in the backseats (I heard they were only there for insurance purposes). The interior comfort to a car is the last thing I worry about in a car, but I have to say, my ex cars (05 Pontiac Grand Prix, 2002 Ford Mustang) interior was 100X more comfy than this.

All in all, if you enjoy a fast car that doesn't cost a fortune to buy, I recomend this one as it is a great bang for your buck. If you don't care about driving fast, than skip the Camaro Z28 and get yourself a Honda.
