1985 Chevrolet Celebrity Eurosport (coupe) 2.8L Multi port from North America

Summary:

This is a good, reliable, and sturdy car that I would suggest for my own mother

Faults:

Just normal wear and tear here all I had to do was get some new brakes, and a tune up. I have yet to have any major problems with this car.

General Comments:

In general, this car has been great. I got it from a friend of the family for $600 and it was the best $600 I could have spent.

I have not had any major problems.

The first winter I owned this car I kept it outside on the streets, and it started every time with out any hesitation.

It has smooth shifting, and I have not had any trouble with the transmission.

The body has stayed in great shape for a 20 year old car. There is a little bit of rust on the bottom of the doors, but the rest looks fine.

I have been rear ended in this car twice now and both times the celebrity held up with no damage. Unlike the newer plastic cars that hit me.

1985 Chevrolet Celebrity 2.6L from North America

Summary:

This was my first car and I loved it, it was very reliable and lasted for as long as I wanted it

Faults:

The bottom floor caved in.

It have a gas leak.

I have to warm up my car in the winter for a good 10 minutes due to a faulty carburetor.

The fan motor is shot and makes it sound like my muffler fell off.

General Comments:

The repairs I had to make are understandable, because the car is almost as old as I am.

The repairs I had to make weren't very major, which resulted in my keeping the car for a good 5 years.

I had a 1985 Chevy Celebrity. The problems I had with it were minor problems. I had over 250000 on it when I got rid of it. This was one of the best cars I have ever owned.

The problems I had with my Celebrity, were that it started to rust underneath the driver's side floor board, and the cloth from the ceiling started to sag and the speedometer stop working. Other than that, the car was the most reliable car that I ever owned.

1985 Chevrolet Celebrity Base 2.5 FI from North America

Summary:

Hands down, the best value of a car that I can think of!!

Faults:

For this particular car, the head gasket needed to be replaced almost every 100 000 kilometers. I was not sure whether this consistency was normal, so I did some research only to find out that this was rather commonplace for this model and several others from the same generation (such as the Cavalier, Chevette, etc.).

The gas tank had given me no trouble until the fall of '99 when it started to leak, so I had that replaced, along with new feed/return lines at roughly 480 000 kilometers.

The water pump went mysteriously at just over 120 000 kilometers, but it was replaced and has given me no problem since.

At present day (July 2002), the power steering pump is showing extreme signs of wear and cuts in and out occasionally. It will need to be replaced no later than fall.

The air conditioning went after only 220 000 kilometers. The retrofit cost of installing an "R-134 A" unit was going to be over $1000 to complete.

General Comments:

This is a remarkable car that, after almost 18 years of solid, everyday use, is still going strong.

I am still on the original block, head, and most amazingly, the original transmission.

Routine oil and filter changes, plus careful and delicate driving habits are a good reason why the "green machine" is still alive and well, but I also have reason to believe that these are extremely durable and reliable cars for the money, as I have a friend with an '86 Celebrity with approximately 459 000 kilometers on it.

One last positive point about the Celebrity, is its amazing rust resilience. It lives in Canada, where the winters are harsh and the roads are constantly being salted. The body panels are still good and free of holes!!!

The complaints are few, but a large one is the extremely slow signal lights.

The paint on these cars is very low quality, especially the silver/grey and the soft green.

But what am I complaining about? This car can't be beat! I'll never part with it!

Hye, that's a lot of km. I have a 1985 celeb with the 2.8l V-6, carbed. it only has like 230,000km, but it started to knock. but otherwise I love the car, and plan to have the engine rebuilt (and modified for more power) when the motor goes.
