Bad alternator.
Brakes, tires, normal wear and tear.
I received this car from my cousin in the summer. It sat for about 4 months, and even then it started right up. It still starts up every time I need it too. Even though I hate it, and thinks it's the ugliest thing I have ever seen, it has been very faithful to me. It will probably never die. It amazes me how I can fly by people on the highway. That's the one thing I love about it the engine, and acceleration.
Obviously, you have never driven anything that really iS fast.
The Celebrity with the 2.8 is a toad.
I had a 2.8 multi port fuel injected V6. when I bought it, it was a toad, but if you do regular spark plug changes and make sure your spark plug wires are good, you should be awesome. My 2.8 was in a Pontiac 6000 LE.. it had a/c, Power windows and everything like that. With the new wires and spark plugs, this car was no toad. It wasn't the fastest thing on the road, but it managed to blow most other V6 chevs off the road. I did drag my cousins Bonneville 3.8 and it beat it. How can a car, that isn't firing properly, work properly?? so make sure this stuff is on there and doing its job and you will have a nice, smooth acelleration on these cars.
I have a 89 Chev Celebrity Wagon 2.8 V6 A/C, Auto. The A/C still works after so many years of operation. Replaced the alternator 2 after the second time installed a GM replacement and never had a problem since with it. I really like the power of this car, it does pull hard and will cruise with the fastest on the highway. It is dependable enough to be my family and as well my business car. I use it to travel to garages here on Vancouver Island helping Technicians diagnose problems on a lot of Asian vehicles, lol. I repair the computers for Asian cars as well. I work on so many asian vehicles, Yes, the japanese cars do break, and the cost of the parts..., I am happy with my Chev.
Even though they look slow the are actually pretty quick. on mine the muffler fell off about 1000 miles ago, sounds sweet now. It will keep up with my friend's 1970 delta 88 that has 455 in it. Yeah I know dosen't sound believable, but it does.
I now drive Mom's beloved Eurosport. She bought it new-used (a left-over demo) in 1989. This is one car that won't quit. It starts reliably and gets me to work every day. Amazingly, this car still gets good gas mileage! Mom's only complaint was that the paint peels away, requiring occasional "Maaco Make-overs." The body has been quite rust-free and hopefully the bottom won't drop out! When that happens, the Chevy and I will part company.
So I randomly got on here to see if my Celebrity entry was still on here, and uhh it is. Even though it's been like four years...
I only had this car for a year, and in that time I did everything I could think of to kill it. Neglecting oil changes, hard acceleration, shifting from Drive to Reverse while driving...
NOTHING would kill this thing! So then I sold it to a neighbor, where I STILL had to look at the stupid car every day, until very recently actually WHEN it did die.
Moral of the story: Chevy Celebrity's are possessed and will run until the end of time.
I bought my 89 Celebrity wagon in 2001 with 97,000 miles on it. It was my daily driver for 6 years with regular trips up and down the east coast from New York to Florida. It never missed a beat. I moved out of the country in 2007 and donated to my pastor who gave it to his son-in-law. When I parted it with it... it had 255,000 miles. It still looked and ran like it did when it was new. I took real good care of it and had it repainted in 2004. The last time I spoke to my pastor, he said it was still going strong and approaching 300k. The only complaint I ever had was the computer was prone to problems and was in an awkward place to get at. I replaced it twice.
I bought a 1989 Chevrolet Celebrity (eurosport) 4 cylinders 2.5 about 4 yrs. ago.
It ran beautifully until about a year and half ago.
I replaced the computer and the PROM chip was put in the new computer. I have also replaced the coolant sensor, but the ECM still does read it.
I had to have new crankshaft sensor or the crankshaft itself.
The mechanic cost me $350. I need to drive this car. Please tell why it stops when I cruise in 3rd gear.
