2006 Chevrolet Equinox from North America

Summary:

Terrible

Faults:

My 2006 Chevy Equinox has had problems since I bought it. Mainly the AWD, makes a "grinding" noise only when the AWD is engaged. I thought at first it was just me, but it got worse every time I brought my Chevy into the dealer; they could not find anything. The hubs were replaced, so it's not that.

Recently they just fixed it twice, once the front part of the differential, then the whole differential, good news is it worked for like 6 months, bad news, the same noise is back! Any ideas?

BRAKES, BRAKES and more brakes and rotors, and also tires! Also the heater went bad at 35,000 miles, and cost $1,200.

2006 Chevrolet Equinox LX 3.4 from North America

Summary:

Overall a great vehicle

Faults:

The only gripe I have is the fabric seats stain very easily. In fact the stains aren't from anything but water off the roof. In other words, they are water stains. Water stains can be taken care of, but it is difficult and has to be done the right way. Do your ox. The homework.

General Comments:

So far we have thoroughly enjoyed our 2006 Equinox Anyone who bashes Chevy for the 2006 Equinox should rethink things. I don't know about other years, but the vehicle is totally made by Suzuki. I couldn't tell the difference one day when the two of them were side by side. Then I looked closer and saw the Suzuki emblem on one of them. I can't knock Suzuki, because I have several personal friends who have had great experiences with different models of Suzuki.

This vehicle may have a problem from time to time, but I must say I have had new vehicles turn out much much worse coming from Ford, Chrysler, etc. I also have to believe from some of the disasters I read in this site, that some people do not know what it means to take care of a car, and to treat it well.

James.

2006 Chevrolet Equinox from North America

Summary:

Fair

Faults:

Yes there is a foul odor coming from the car when the air condition runs, and it now is leaking water. The water appears to be in the rear floor on the passenger side. I do not have a sunroof. I took it in on Friday to get it serviced and was told it would be Tuesday before they could look at it. I bought an extended warranty, but regret it now. The warranty has run out, and now the car is experiencing problems. What a waste of money.

2006 Chevrolet Equinox LT 3.4L from North America

Summary:

Scrap metal!

Faults:

10,000 miles brake work - shaved rotors

20,000 miles brake work - replaced pads

22,000 miles brake work - knocking sound

28,000 miles brake work - replaced rear drums

38,000 miles alternator

40,000 battery acid leak.

General Comments:

I am extremely upset with the quality GM has input in this vehicle. My problem with my brakes is occurring again at 42,000 miles and looks like it is the rear drums again! Dealership says normal wear and tear or hit a puddle while hot. I guess I can't drive my Equinox when it is raining! Unbelievable! We should be looking into a class action.

I have a 2007 Chevrolet Cobalt with the same brake problems. The mechanic also told me about hitting puddles. However, I just made sure not to get my rotors wet while I am cleaning my car, and I haven't had the problem since 44 thousand miles.-I am now knocking on the door of 80 thousand miles. I don't think puddles are the issue. Just don't get the rotors wet while cleaning the vehicle.

Summary:

Gas Gobbler

Faults:

Nothing.

General Comments:

Very reliable, never been in for service or repair.

This thing is a real pig on gas, not recommended with today's gas prices.
