2001 Chevrolet S-10 LS Ext. Cab 4.3 Vortech from North America

Summary:

A very nice ride

Faults:

The only thing that I've had wrong with it was a rattle under the hood on the passenger side. It was the hood latch pin, a known issue. Other than that, I haven't had any other problems. Well I busted the shocks because I lowered it 2 inches and then put 1200 lbs of pulp wood in the bed. But I never had a problem with it while it was loaded down.

General Comments:

The takeoff is good to be a truck and it handles curves real good.

The heater works to good, because I have to keep it on cool to keep from burning up.

2001 Chevrolet S-10 LS 2.4 from North America

Summary:

A good truck

Faults:

Security Light illuminates for no reason at all. The dealer is unable to provide or find an answer for this problem.

As a smoker, my previous Chevy S-10 allowed me to drive with the window cracked, during the rain. The 2001 model allows water to drain into the cab if you are driving in the rain.

I have replaced the stock front brake pads at 24899 miles.

The air conditioner condenser had to be replaced at 16400 miles.

There is a rattling noise from the left front hood area when you first start accelerating in cold weather.

General Comments:

Generally a very stable vehicle.

I would prefer to purchase the 6 cylinder next time, as the 4 cylinder is rather slow.

2001 Chevrolet S-10 4 Door 4x4 4.3 Vortech from North America

Summary:

A sold little truck that could use a V-8

Faults:

The only problems I have had are with the window seal. It would not seal all of the way, allowing an air leak. This was fixed promptly by the dealer. It first started leaking at about 500 miles.

The only other down side so far is that the stock Good Year tires wore out quick. They only lasted to about 15,000 miles. They were rotated every 5000 miles.

General Comments:

I have used and abused this truck for all of it's life. I have sunk it to the middle of the door in water. It never stopped running. I drove it off of a cliff of about 5 to 10 feet. It landed on it's front bumper, I thought the only damage was a bent bumper. But, at my next oil chance I noticed that the frame was bent! That is to be expected when you drive a truck off a cliff at 20 miles per hour. But the cool thing is that it ran just fine with the engine 2 inches back from the factory location. The only issue was that the header rubbed on the fire will a little bit. I have used it to pull out a 1-ton welding truck with out a problem. I have also towed a 25 foot dual axle trailer fully loaded with firewood at a 60 miles per hour.
