Sorry about your S-10. My '94 S-10 had the transmision fail at 300 miles and the second one fail at a few miles passed the 36000 mile warranty (that's three transmissions). Then there's the rusted up gas tank and fuel pump which needed replacement at around 40,000 miles. I will only gloss over the failed windshield wiper motor, the short in the electrical wiring it took three trips to the dealer to finally fix, the defective alternator, etc. The entire list is too long for this short note. The hardest work to which this truck has been subjected is its use as a second car.
I have a GMC Jimmy S-10, 1993 92,000 miles replaced head gasket @ 87,000 and just found out it is blown and I have water in my oil. Now need a new engine. I am being told a rebuilt with a 3 year 36,000 warranty will cost about 2200 plus cost of installation of at least 18 hours labor. Any comments?
My wife and I own a 1989 S-10 Blazer (4.3L). We are the second owners (bought @100k) and we just passed 255,501 miles. We change the oil every 3k or so and make sure our fluids are full. I don't know that I need to say anything else, but I feel like this truck deserves it. Have we had to fix problems? Yes. Have you ever been to a doctor?
The engine, a/c, and transmission are all original along with the rear and front ends. I keep putting off getting the upper control arm bushings replaced ($200), and I think the trany may only have another 20k or so left, but I think I'll buy another Chevy.
I have a 1996 4.3L Vortec V-6 4X4. It has 100,000 miles.
It runs great and quiet!
First, It is known that the EGR and Fuel Pump components can go bad in the s-10. However not slacking on the fuel filter replacement will make that problem much less of an issue.
Secondly, don't buy a pick-up that isn't 4X4 there is no point.
Third, don't buy a 4 cylinder there is no point.
Mine runs great and I take good care of it and keep everything greased, fluids up to fill, oil changed...etc.
It has only needed basic maintenance that every car needs at the proper mileage. Oh yeah, don't buy a 4 cylinder.
It is too slow and. If you do you will kick yourself for it later and wish you had a 6 along with the 4X4.
I love my truck, it is a beast! Looks good, runs good, accessories galore as well. Another thing lift your pick-up don't lower it. Every time I see a lowered s-10 bottom out I just want to smack the idiot driving it. It is a pick-up lower cars lift trucks, If your going to pimp something out make sure your not going to actually use it for anything.
My first truck was a 1998 S-10 2WD with the 2.2 4cyl. and it was really slow. I didn't want to use the truck to haul anything so I started adding aftermarket parts to it and decided to show it. I put a 4/4 drop from DJM Suspension, a full phantom grill, molded roll pan, and a set of Boyd Coddington Blaster 17" rims. the only problem I ever had was the u-joints went out due to the drop. Other than that I never had any problems. I now own a 1996 S-10 extended cab step side with the 4.3 V6. It is lowered a little bit, not like my first one, and I just recently put a set of 20" Nitza Alloy Amnesia rims on it. I have never had the first problem with the truck. It will be put in the paint shop to be fully shaved and have a House of Kolors Brandywine Candy paint job. It has four 12" MTX subs in the back with a 1000 watt Hollywood amp. The only thing that I have had to fix was the air and all it needed was new freon. The truck has 75,000 miles and still runs like it is a new truck. I will never drive any other vehicle besides an S-10. Everyone now calls me the S-10 GURU due to my knowledge about S-10 trucks.
I bought a 1996 s-10 extended cab with the vortec 4.3 about 6 months ago. For the most part, I am happy with the truck. This is my first truck, I have 2 porsches and a BMW so I bought this for a usable truck. however, I have problems with the a/c. any comments let me know.
