1991 Chevrolet Silverado 5.7 from North America

Summary:

The most reliable vehicle I have ever owned

Faults:

Chrome pealing away on grille.

Replaced muffler and tail pipe twice.

Replaced the Y pipe.

Replaced thermostat.

Replaced transmission at 221,000 miles with GM re-manufactured transmission.

Replaced plastic tanks connected to radiator.

Replaced alternator.

Replaced water pump.

Paint is slightly peeling on the hood.

General Comments:

The interior of my truck looks almost new. Many have commented on it's appearance and cannot believe the amount of mileage or the year of the vehicle. Other than a few scratches and stone marks on the hood, my plans are to repaint the truck with the original color combination and to keep it for as long as possible.

1991 Chevrolet Silverado Extended Cab V8 from North America

Summary:

A wonderful vehicle

Faults:

Water pump has gone out

Alternator has gone out

Thermostat has been replaced

Windshield Wiper Fluid pump has been replaced

Distributor cap and rotor have been replaced twice

Fuel Pump has been replaced

At about 100,000 the Dash board light started to go out.

The Tape deck stopped working for about a year and then one day while I was vacuming the truck it started to work again and has not stopped.

Roof started to fall at about 150000

There has been a mystery noise for about 2 years on the front left side. It started out as a small rattling noise as I went over bumps and has now turned into a sever grinding rattling noise. I have had this looked at by several mechanics over the years. Non e of them have been able to tell what it is. Some thought it was the bearings, but I had them checked. It does not cause any noticeable problem to the performance of the vehicle.

General Comments:

This Truck has been a wonderful truck.

I have had to replace all the normal things, but over all a great vehicle.

I have never had to replace the U joints.

The rear end has always been a little noisy. One mechanic said that it was going to go out soon. That was about 50000 miles ago.

I had the bench seats. Not so comfortable. But they did just fine.

It was powerful enough to pull a trailer of about 6000 pounds all summer long in 95. Oh yeah the clutch had to be replaced twice. I burned out one pulling the heavy load.
