2000 Chrysler Concorde LXI from North America - Comments

"The worst investment I ever made"

What things have gone wrong with the car?

First two weeks of ownership: Rack and pinion replaced, gas gauge replaced, glove box lid replaced, odor in the car when the A/C is running - nothing done to fix problem yet - Chrysler are aware and do nothing to assist.

All other work was replaced under the warranty, because of defects in the car.

Now, the front doors are loose and rattle when driving - took the car in and they said they could not find anything wrong - but agree that it is loose.

Same with the A/C smell - they agree it is there, but can't find the problem and won't replace the A/C unit.

General comments?

This car is very appealing to look at and very comfortable to drive in - but it's not built well and is unreliable to drive.

May be your experience was bad with Concorde, but overall it is a nice car and luxury at an affordable price.

My experience with Concorde is great. No problems with quality at all. It was involved in a wreck, in which the car was a total loss. My grandfather who was driving alone was not injured even though the car was rear ended by a truck and pushed into the back of another truck. The car was replaced with a 2001 model.

I have a 2000 Concorde LXi with over 34,000 miles on it. Had to replace the R/L side view mirror switch, but that was it. The car rides as solid and quiet as the day I bought it. Would do it all over again.

Bought my 2001 Concorde LXi with 8700 miles on the odometer, and aside from a small scrape on the lower front plastic and a couple of paint chips, the car was brand new. No problems so far, and it gets lots of positive comments on styling. I love the new look that Chrysler has with the winged badge, and have wanted this car since 1999. I would buy one again with no hesitation.

My 1998 Chrysler Concorde LXI has had a variety of problems, many of them repaired repeatedly. All the window motors have been replaced a couple of times while in warranty, some have been replaced 3 times. The windows stuck in the "up" position. The car went out of warranty and it will cost me around 400 dollars to fix one window motor again. I rarely use the windows, but when you need them down, well...

The dealer joked that at least they didn't stick in the "down" position!"

The speakers on the window have stopped working and were repaired several times, and the ones in the dash stopped working too. I now just play the back ones.

The sensor that tells the car when to change gears stopped working twice: once on warranty; once off. 500 dollars later...

The clips that hold the window in place on the drivers side broke. They don't just sell the clip so you have to replace the entire window at a cost to me of over 300 dollars.

There has been a strong smell of mildew coming out of the air conditioner for a year, but they haven't fixed it (I've brought it in 3 times for that).

What's really unfortunate is that this car has the roomiest interior of any car I've ever been in (it's roomier than their 300M) and it looks finer than any car I've seen in years, but it's been in the shop so many times I'm disgusted, not to mention the smell when I run the air. I want to get rid of it, but I haven't seen anything else out there that turns me on and that I can afford!

There is a very easy way to fix your air conditioner's bad smell (which is quite common, may I add). Just get some air freshener spray for the car's A/C and apply it - this should solve your problem.

The mysterious smell from the air vents was my biggest nemesis in my ‘98. Few days back, I replaced the air filter in the A/C. It was all dirty with dry bugs and other debris. It almost fell apart when taken out. Whereas the smell was very strong before, now, it seems it went away.

I just got mine and I love it. I feel like a million bucks in it and I love the way it rides and handles. So much for sport cars for me.

I've had my 2000 Concorde LXI for 3 years now and only had a $300 repair to my wipers. A mind of their own. Everything else has been good. Unfortunate that front lights and battery are so hard to get at. As for looks, I haven't had anyone not like it.

My 1999 Chrysler LHS has had several problems with the window motor which were fixed under warranty. But the biggest problem is the smell. The last year we noticed a strong smell coming form the A/C. We took it to the dealer and for $80 they said they cleaned it and sprayed something in the system to keep the mold down. But two weeks after pickup the smell came back.

I've also started having major problems with possessed wipers on my Concorde. They seem to work as they want (or not) when they want. Has anyone found a true fix for such? Even when turning off now, they often stop in the middle of the window instead of going all the way down. And have also started back up, when turning off the ignition. The annoyance is one thing... but having them stop cold in the middle of driving in a hard rain is dangerous! Can't something be replaced without costing an arm & a leg?

I have the 1998 Chrysler Concorde and it has been a nightmare since day one. The speed sensors have been replaced atleast three times, the drivers side window had to be replaced, the speakers in the door are no good. I would never by another Chrysler again.
