1999 Citroen Xsara VTS 2.0 16v from UK and Ireland

Summary:

What a toy!

Faults:

About 6 months into my ownership, the engine repeatedly stalled when pulling up to traffic lights. the problem has now cleared itself up on its own.

In March 2004, my Remote central locking stopped working.

In April 2004, The drivers seat broke, after refusing to tip properly since I had the car. The seat anchor, holding it to the floor pan managed to snap.

General Comments:

The car has a few modifications to the inlet and the exhaust system, and sounds awsome when the engine revs get above 4200rpm.

I am not too impressed by the colour, as it is Metallic yellow, but it does show off the beautiful lines of the bodyshell.

Purchase one, and play!

1999 Citroen Xsara VTR 1.8 16v from UK and Ireland

Summary:

An understated beauty

Faults:

My boot does not lock when using the remote central locking.

Alarm went off every two hours.

General Comments:

This is my seconds Citroen after having a marvelous experience with my 1.1 SX Saxo. I decided to then spend my hard earned cash on my Xsara VTR.

It was an excellent bargain at only 5000 with 22K miles on the clock and a full Citroen service history.

The colour of this car is vital. Mine is in Bora Green and makes the great lines stand out. I have seen similar models in silver and they do not look this good.

I have had several problems in my 7 months of ownership. the major one being the alarm which went off every two hours until I disconnected the alarm siren. The boot would also not unlock when using the remote key fob prior to this.

The exhaust cracked but I put this down to the short distances it has travelled before I owned the car.

All of the lights on the dash would light up when cornering which was very disconcerting.

I am very unhappy with the way the dealers have dealt with my request to get these problems looked at. The customer service was very bad. However, these faults have all now been rectified.

Overall the car has been great and is just what I have wanted. Performance is great, especially after it goes past 3000 rpm.

Economy is fantastic.

This car stands out far more than your standard Focus and Astra and leaves you feeling great that you are not driving something everyone else has got.

1999 Citroen Xsara VTS Coupe 2.0i 16v from UK and Ireland

Summary:

A quick, reliable and practical motor!!

Faults:

Nothing much has gone wrong with the car since I've owned it. The only fault is a warning light that infrequently comes on for the side airbag. I know that there is nothing wrong and have had it checked, but to no avail!!

General Comments:

I would really recommend this car to somebody who is fairly young and wants a very quick, comfortable car with a sporty edge. It's fairly cheap to insure and maintain. The only problem is the dealer network that is awful. They tend to try to do work that you haven't asked for at services and charge you £100's for it. e.g. £400 worth of replacement pads and discs that I subsequently go fitted for £85.

Real rip off merchants!!!

1999 Citroen Xsara SX Break (Estate) 1.8i 16v from Sweden

Summary:

A comfortable wonder in a small package

Faults:

Nothing.

General Comments:

This car gives a comfortable ride even on uneven Swedish roads. It handles well with nice (power assisted) steering.

Engine noise is low, but surface noise from the road is a bit high.

The interior is roomy and nice, with good quality. I like the rounded edges on the dashboard. Feels more personal and welcome than the sterile interior in, for example, Volkswagen and Volvo.

However, I would welcome lumbar support in the front seat.

Factory fitted radio is OK, but nothing more. (if you want good sound, I advice on getting an aftermarket unit - Blaupunkt and Alpine has great solutions, they even have adapters to the remote control in the steering wheel).

Gear changes, especially when going from first to second gear, is a bit on the stiff side.

This is a reliable car. Everything works, including all electronics and electrical equipment.

A/C is good, heater excellent. The heater is excellent. No problems with -20 Celsius or below.

All in all, I'm very pleased with my car.
