2000 Citroen Xsara VTR 1.4 from Greece

Summary:

A totally unreliable beauty

Faults:

Indicator lights went crazy 3 months after it was bought. I was pulling the handbrake and the oil lamp was turning on. I had to wait 5 months for the replacement part.

Alarm-lights switch went off 2 months after buying. I had to disconnect the battery to turn off the alarm-lights! I had to wait 6 months for the replacement part.

Door locks went crazy after a car wash. The car locked me in by itself while I was driving!

Temporary electrical failure for no particular reason. It just wouldn't start. It started after 15 minutes and a dozen tries.

General electrical failure while driving in the rain (this car just isn't waterproof). I had to replace the battery at 10,000 km.

Recently the electrical window started to make a strange noise.

General Comments:

Beautiful car with a lot of space and very comfortable. But these are the only good things about it.

I wouldn't recommend this car to anyone. It is totally unreliable and potentially dangerous. Especially the electrical system. It let me down twice and had several other problems.

I was very happy when I bought it, but now I am trying to get rid of it as soon as possible.

I've been driving my Xsara TD for 115000 kms now and only my side-airbag light lit up due to a bad contact under the passenger seat. That's all, no strange things happened.

I too had an airbag light come on for no apparent reason. Also my Throttle Positioning Sensor caved in causing a rough ride and making the car near impossible to drive!

I have been driving my xsara with as much pleasure when I bought it 2 years ago. In 2 years, I have had absolutely no problem whatsoever. The engine is powerful enough, the comfort is satisfying. An official Citroën garage chip tuned my engine just two weeks ago, which resulted in a 10-15% performance increase, and I can safely say that there are very few cars that can keep up with me.

For me, especially from a financial point of view, this is one of the best cars available, combining performance, comfort and style.

I bought a Citroen Xsara 2.0i Exclusive (Manual) in June 2003. It is a very good car for myself and my family. The engine is powerful enough for its low weight. The car likes a bullet when it starts through a cross. I have driven the car over 200km/h in the highway. There are no problem when driving in high speed, comfort and safety. It is equipped with Car-PC which can indicate speeds of the car, consumption of fuel, and most everything of the car operation. Good car for interested persons.

How did you fix the problem with the oil light turning on when handbrake was pulled?

2000 Citroen Xsara Coupe VTR 1.8 16v from UK and Ireland

The dealer and the manufacturer cannot solve the problems and will not assist me.

2000 Citroen Xsara Clim 1.6 from Turkey

Summary:

I would never buy another French car

Faults:

Lots of electrical faults e.g air con has failed, windshield washers has failed, dashboard light has failed.

Funny noises come from inside.

General Comments:

Totally disappointed with this car. It's only done 10,000 kilometers and has a lot of problems already.

Cheap materials used on the car especially on the plastic and electronic parts.

I've got couple of words for French car makers - If you can't make a car, get out of the car manufacturing business.

How can this person give such a damning report, particularly with regard to faults developed within a short mileage, then award a score of 9/10 for reliability. Crazy or what?!!!

I totally agree with the person who made a prevoius comment about this guy, even if I never haven't owned this model of vehicle. Please stay realistic about giving the proper information, because it will help everybody about something...

I own a Citroen Xsara 1.9D for the past three years, currently 92,000 miles recorded and NO major problems, I couldn't get through the day without my little airbag lamp blinking at me.

I previously ran a Citroen Zx to 235,000 miles and no problems.

Excellent motors with just enough eccentricity included at no extra cost.

Hi, I have a 2000 Xsara, but the warning light turns on when the radiator fan starts. Does anyone have any ideas on how to fix it?
