Summary:

Cheap as chips

Faults:

The battery drained after a fortnight at long stay car park, my fault.

General Comments:

A really good quick car with excellent build quality, yet cheap to run. bought as an import in N.I. for £10500.

2001 Citroen Xsara VTR from Belgium

Summary:

A good, spacious and comfortable car and extremely well handling car for a bargain price

Faults:

I don't have any problems with my Xsara so fare. The cars drives very well, it is comfortable, it has lots of space for a compact car. The only fault I had so fare is the airbag-light, which is caused by the connector of the belt tensioners. However, my Citroen dealer was able to fix it within 30 minutes.

General Comments:

In my opinion the Xsara is a good and reliable car with a better price/value rating than its German competitors.

The performance of the 1.4 litre engine is good, but the strength of the Xsara is the handling, especially on countryside roads.

Fuel economy is also very good, especially considering my way of driving, with an average consumption of 7,7 litres (about 6,7 litres motorway and 8,8 in the city).

2001 Citroen Xsara LX 1.4i petrol from UK and Ireland

Summary:

A bargain

Faults:

Optional alloy wheels were not properly balanced by supplying dealer resulting in a vibration through the steering wheel at speed. Paid for balancing at a local tyre fitter.

Central locking remote failed. Replaced under warranty.

Air bag light came one due too bad connection under the passenger seat. Repaired under warranty.

General Comments:

1.4 engine is a little underpowered in a car of this size.

Handling is very good.

Seats very comfortable on long journeys.

Current pricing makes this car a bargain.

2001 Citroen Xsara VTS 2.0 16v from UK and Ireland

Summary:

Mature wolf in sheep's clothing

Faults:

On delivery the metallic paint had some small marks on the front of the roof underneath the lacquer, both pointed out and corrected by the dealer. The downside is that the dealer got to do the first 100 miles in the car.

A few alerts on the display regarding the immobiliser system, although all seems fine.

General Comments:

This has got to be one of the most precise handling cars I`ve owned, and that includes most of the `hot hatches`, it corners faster than I dare!

Performance feels a bit mundane for its 167 HP.

Most of the toys, such as automatic light and wipers, work instinctively and just manage to become useful rather than gimmick.

Adequate stereo system - first one I`ve not felt inclined to replace.

I bought with a substantial discount, (over £4k), I would have not considered it otherwise.

Beware of the insurance cost..

Had a second hand vts 2 years ago. Your description is spot on. It was a great car. A drivers car that the family will like.
