2002 Citroen Xsara VTR 1.6i 16v from UK and Ireland

Summary:

Impressive little sporty number..

Faults:

Mapping sensor went haywire, causing the car to stall and judder sporadically. It was fixed under warranty.

Some of the interior is coming loose, e.g. the door interiors and cigarette trays.

General Comments:

For the money I paid the car is awesome. It outperforms all similar sized cars with 1.6 engines in both performance and value for money.

The Citroen dealership I bought it from have been nothing, but help also. When things started to go wrong they fixed it immediately and it was under warranty.

The interior quality is no VW Golf, but is good looking enough so I'm proud of my car as it is.

Compared to other medium sized sport models it is practical enough for normal domestic uses.

It won't outrun a BMW, but its quick enough to leave local boy racers standing at the lights and average enough to look at so not to attract to much attention to the law.

Fuel economy is OK enough with it averaging at 41 miles per gallon.

Insurance is group 9 so not too hard-hitting on your wallet.

In my opinion a better buy than a similarly sized alternative such as a Megane coupe or Hyundai coupe as it is practical as well as nippy.

A good all rounder...

No one can beat the performance and handling of the Xsara at the same price level. Of course we can't compare it to Beemers, Merc or Audi. I've driven the Civic, Corolla, and 323 Mazda before buying my Xsara - they're miles away in terms of handling. All were nippy small cars, but not as sure-footed as the Xsara in tight corners or changing lanes at high speeds. Despite all the niggles I had, still no regrets that I've bought one.

2002 Citroen Xsara LX ESTATE 1.9 turbo diesel from UK and Ireland

Summary:

On the whole not bad

Faults:

Wheel bearing falure at 40000 miles.

Faulty speedometer reading 15 mph below actual speed.

Headlight bulbs only seem to last around four months.

Rear wash wipe heated screen and high level brake light all stopped working.

Boot lock on several occasions has unlocked whilst on the move.

General Comments:

Build quality is generally very poor my previous model did 95000 miles with no serious problems.

No problems with the handling of the car and the driving position is fine.

Plenty of equipment for the money.

2002 Citroen Xsara LX 1.6i 16v 110 BHP from UK and Ireland

Summary:

Good Car

Faults:

Nothing.

General Comments:

This was a hire when we went to Spain Back in October 2002. It proved to be quite nippy and capable of handling the luggage of 3 people too.

Good Performance from the engine it liked to be revved. It got going when the Revs were above 2,500 RPM. 0-62 MPH in 9.7 Secs and Maximum Speed 121 MPH. (197 KM/H).

Good amount of room in the car the seats were pretty comfy for what they were. Good spec of equipment as well C/D Player A/C as standard and the Stereo was good too.

Overall good car.

2002 Citroen Xsara LX 1.6 16v 110BHP from Sweden

Summary:

A dream, that delivers more than you expect

Faults:

Nothing. I one year I've done 20000 Km with no problem at all. On the 20 000 Km service they changed oil, oil filter, and dust (pollen) filter.

General Comments:

I'm very pleased with the car. Nothing wrong so far I've had nothing, but nice surprises. Ex: the back wiper starts automatically if you drive back :). The LCD is smart enough to know what door is open and so on.

I tested the car at high speed and it went all the way up to 190Km/h with 3 persons and a full trunk. I guess with only me in the car 200Km/h will be no problem. I snow it's a dream. Handel's better that a 4x4! (with M/S tires). I've order it fully loaded (all options) and it was a very cheap car. It averages 6 l/100km on highway (at 130 km/h) and 7.3 l/100Km in town.

Brakes are a dream. Sometimes I begin to trust them to much...

In my model a on-board computer (average consumption, km left to drive...) was not a option and I'm missing that, but the cruse control, ESP, AAC and all the cool things are a dream, especially for the money!

190 KM/H with 3 people in is not that good I got 199 KM/H with 4 people in my 1.6i 16v Renault Scenic.
