The clutch cable had stretched over time and ended up popping out of the plastic retainer body on the pedal when the floor mat interfered with it. Lucky I had tools to fix it in the car, but another example of floor mats causing a potentially dangerous problem. The replacement part was only £17 from a Citroen dealer so no complaints, but I have heard it is a much more difficult and expensive job for Xantias (dashboard removal).
The car really does not like 95RON unleaded, it runs much better with Super where I can find it, so when I can't I use Millers Octane Plus-c which for £3.50 a bottle boosts the octane up to acceptable levels, Japanese turbo owners might find this useful too.
Still handles superbly, I've added a strut brace, Yokohama rubber and Powerflex PU suspension bushes, and I only realise how good it is when I drive other cars.
The 306 looks nicer, but even the GTi6 doesn't feel as quick. Maybe if I try one that's done 50,000 miles it might be loosened up, or opt for a Rallye and throw out the back seats (the Citroen weighs less). The S16 is now becoming sensible money to buy, but just as hard to find.
For £3000 what else goes as well, handles and stops like the ZX. The only thing I would change is to add a turbo version, like the old 405.
Hi, does anyone know where to find any bodykits for the 16v (which I hope to get soon) and a good insurance company (I'm gonna need it, I'm only 19).
What are they like on petrol?
All help appreciated.

Hi, is the engine is the ZX 16V, the engine which was put in the PUG 405 MI16?
What is the ZX 16v like at the lower rev range (1000- 4000)? do they still pull well at the revs.
The engine in the Zx 16valve is not the same as the 405 Mi16.The Mi16 unit is 1903cc and is designated D6C or XU9J4.
This is the same engine as used in the Citroen BX16valve, and produces 160bhp@6500rpm, and 133lbft@5000rpm.
The ZX engine is 1998cc and produces 155bhp.

Does anyone know how difficult it is to change the clutch cable on a ZX? I have a 1.9 diesel.
Thanks.
Regarding the mi16 engine, did any one tried fitting this one into a zx?
I own a zx 1.8 (furio), is it worth doing? are there any problems?
Thanks.
The Mi16v post 1993 did use the same 155bhp 2 litre engine as the ZX 16v and the S16 306.
I have owned both a 1992 - Mi16v - this has 160bhp and a 1995 ZX 16v.
The Mi16v seemed to be more peaky - the ZX between 1000rpm and 3000rpm is good, then it seems to hold its breath until 4000rpm - then it goes, and goes and goes... it's far too easy to bounce off the rev limiter.
Which one was best?? I still have a soft spot for the Pug - but for the money the ZX is a real "Q" car, leaving other drivers confused when you blow them away!!

I have a 1994 16V which I have had since Feb. I had a Spark plug lead breakdown and so it ran on only 3 cylinders until the fault was diagnosed and all 4 were changed as a precaution. Since then it has been running very well and I echo the comments of the author. On the open road it is a dream to drive with plenty of power for overtaking, when possible!
However since the lead changes the car has been developing a similar problem as before. Although the sparks were changed at the same time the car sometimes losses power, sounds like a VW Beetle and then runs okay again. Very Odd. Can anybody shed any light if this is common problem, if the leads are unreliable, distributor problems, injectors etc, etc. Any help would be much appreciated as this car deserves to be in top condition.
Thanks.
I have an Mi16 engine transplanted in my ZX 1.9i volcane. but I'm running on the original ZX 1.9i volcane Motronic MP3.1 ECU. it works fine.
I have a 1996 Zx 16V for 1 & a 1/2 years now. I crave dringing it all throughout the day. Though recently, it's been giving me rubber hose problems (I guess Citroen is not too good for tropical countries), I still like it a lot.
My recent reading about the Pug GTI6 to be more powerful than the 16V. Have any idea what I can do to get that additional boost like the GTI6? Is any of those Power Chips any good on the 16V?
Lee.

About the lead problem, I have the same experience. The power is just awsome once you change th spark plugs and the leads. But that feeling will only last for a little while. Just like many things I've corrected in my 16V, they just don;t last. Somehow, the 16V though great to drive, it's just not reliable in many ways. I have spent a fortune on water hoses at first. And then, the vacume hoses and vacume dependant devises start to give way one by one. And now, my lights keep hunting. My machenics seems not familiar with the problem. Anyone could help me on this?
Hi ' I own ZX16v & I think it's the best FWD car (i still haven't driven the mini cooper s) it's got some flaws : hoses, so what? wanna better hoses? buy the ones that
"ERAL'S PREFORMANC" or "AEROQUIP" make, the engine could
be replaced with the GTI6 engine or turbocharged
the upgrading the shock with bilstien and lowering it
will sharpen it to real monster on the track.
I had a 2.0 16v ZX which I sold a couple of years ago and to be honest I didn't think that it was bad at all. I had it three years in total (and 50,000 miles) and in all that time I had only TWO problems. (1) the thermostat got stuck and (2) the fuel pump went.
Other than that the car was good. OK it looked a little funny and I always thought of it as the poor mans Peugeot 306 S16, but otherwise it was good.
Raced it on a track day and overtook an Audi A3 1.8T down the straight so its got plenty of punch. It also handles well, probably to do with the "passive" 4 wheel steering. If you enter a corner a little too fast and the corner tightens still, just keep turning that steering wheel and the next thing you know the back 'steers' round and you don't crash. Fantastic, although it is hard to tell at first if its the back steering or if its oversteer.
One word of warning. The ZX losses value quicker than a falling star - so be warned. I lost £4k in 3 years...

Ehhhm! 1st of all, I own both the ZX Volcane 2.0L and the ZX16V. I love them both just the same. However, there're differences in the both cors that are worth knowing. The ZX2.0L (4Door) is a better handling car than the 16V. But, it do not have th punch like the 16V. Not even close at high RPM! The 16V may have been brought about after many modifications to get to where it is. That explains the very messy engine compartment, with weird hoses, vacume tubes etc, and hardly any space to put my hands into the engine compartment. But, this engine is well designed in term of performance. Too bad, not necessary for reliability. The rubber parts do not last for tropical country. On the highway, after racing with many cars, including Volvo T5 and BMWs, the 16V can put shame to these makes. The handling and 5th gear is so ggod that you will not need to down shift. To achieve this result, one needs to pay very specific attention to the vacume system. The ACAV system is very sensitive. And it is the thing to determine the 16V to be a 1.6 litre car and a 2.0 super charged! UNderstand the ACAV and get it at top condition is the key to feel the REAL 16V! No joke! But, I have always love ly 4 door 2.0L. The ZX is designed for that configuration. The engine is at the right weight and right position and therefore, when you dive it, everything about the handling just seems so invincible. Only at high speed would the 16V be feeling better in handling than the 2.0L.
Hi ALL.
I have a 1994 ZX 16V, amazing car!!, after some mods the car was driving the SAME like GTI6!,I'm thinking to sell the 16V because of more place in the car for my family, the car I was thinking of is Audi A4 1.8T with some mod it easy goes up to 200H.P, until than... i got a shift light with no diagram..,any one know how to install it on a 16V?
Tnx!
Just got my self a zx 2.0 16v gr8 little car good fun to. the problem that it is having is like a few of you is when it suddenly loses power then gets it back again, I am told from the guy I bought the car from who is a mechanic. that it comes from there being a problem with the fuel tank sucking air in so when you go round a corner the fuel goes to one side and the swirl pots (store fuel reserve) gets filled with air so no fuel for power. and when you get going again the petrol is push thru again, only way been told to fix it is to replace the fuel tank, wooops, told the 1.4 will be the same, but must come of a 3 door, any questions email me at andysylus@yahoo.co.uk.
