1996 Daewoo Nexia GLi 3dr hatch 1.5i 8v from UK and Ireland

Summary:

Lots of car for you money

Faults:

Picked up the car cheaply because it was in poor condition. The cam belt had broken at 80,000 miles. (According to Daewoo this should have been replaced at 60,000 miles or 5 years) The owner had not had it changed and it broke. That needed replacing.

Also the head gasket seal was developing a slight leak on it, this held for the first 8 months of owning the car then it blew.

Both faults were repaired and nothing has gone wrong since.

General Comments:

Firstly you get what you pay for, so don't expect luxury.

The car is spacious enough to be comfortable.

It has perfectly adequate seats, driving position, control placement, etc.

The car is easy to maintain, the styling hasn't aged considerably and I personally think the styling is still on par with some of today's newer cars.

As a family we own two of these cars (a GLi 3 door '96 hatch and a 4 door GLXi '97 saloon) Both have been reliable, comfortable and still look good today. I would recommend these to everyone.

1996 Daewoo Nexia GLi 1.5 from UK and Ireland

Summary:

Great drive and reliability for the money

Faults:

Handle on hatch snapped off.

Driver's seat has worn badly.

Lumbar support in driver's seat has gone.

General Comments:

I quite like the drive and the throaty roar.

Ridiculously cheap and yet has air conditioning and runs well.

Would have really liked to have had central locking, it would have made it a perfect car for me.

1996 Daewoo Nexia GLXi 1.5 from UK and Ireland

Summary:

Zero street cred, but you do get a lot of car for very little money

Faults:

Water pump.

Distributor.

Cat & Lamba sensor.

A few minor electrical gremlins.

Front ABS sensors (common problem)

General Comments:

A practical car and if properly serviced should give years of trouble free motoring.

These cars need regular oil changes to keep the engines running smoothly (especially the 16v models) and cam belt changes at the specified time.

1996 Daewoo Nexia GLXi 1.5 from UK and Ireland

Summary:

A nicely specified car for the price and running costs

Faults:

Air conditioning at 50000 miles.

Distributor 55000 miles.

General Comments:

This car is very like the Vauxhall Astra I used to own except with a much higher spec. Things have only started to go wrong recently (which I would have expected from any car - especially an Astra). However, with the closure of ALL Daewoo dealers/parts/service in my area this is now much more of a problem.

No Haynes Manuals for this car makes it very hard to fix. Have found a few sites on the internet which help but the best ones are in in Czech!

1996 Daewoo Nexia GL 1.5 8v from Belgium

Summary:

A bargain

Faults:

There is not much wrong with this car.

I like it, but there is one thing. Inside the car there is not much comfort.

Don't expect a mercedes that does not cost much when you buy a daewoo!!

General Comments:

Performance: the engine performs very good. The acceleration is good because the weight of the car is low. But the engine consumes a lot of petrol. Sometimes I do only 400 km with 45L of petrol. That is more than 10L/100km!!!

Handling: The car responds very good in the corners even at high speed.

Comfort: The inside of the car is dull and not very comfortable. But I don't care because you don't expect a lot of comfort when you buy a daewoo.

Price: The price of the car was very good, but thing about the consumption of petrol.

Overall: I like the car and my next car will be a daewoo.

1996 Daewoo Nexia GLXI 1.5 petrol from UK and Ireland

Summary:

A reliable, inexpensive run about

Faults:

Nothing much at all, the usual brake light or tail light going.

Cam belt was renewed before I bought it, but have had no problems in 2 and a half years. Sounds a bit rough round the edges engine wise, but what car wouldn't at 7 years old.

General Comments:

The interior has a lot to be desired not very pretty.

Goes OK for a 1.5 it maybe my only car, but have drove a 2.0 so can compare performance.
