One recall on tire pressure monitoring system.
This is a sharp looking car.
Very comfortable and has many great standard features.
This is a review for the SXT model, the SE base model has far fewer standard feature and less available options.
I'm very glad, actually excited that you like this car. I was reading some of the "Professional" reviews that of course, praise the imports while not giving this car enough credit. I've been looking at buying either the Avenger or Sebring. I drove one of each (both base models) and then drove some of the imports (Altima, Sonata, Camry. The only one that I liked was the Sonata. However, neither of the three seemed to be as "bang for the buck" as the Avenger/Sebring. Im looking forward to buying my own:-)
Chrysler builds some extremely good cars, and the Avenger is one of them. My past Dodges have been very reliable and well built cars.
The resale value of the Dodge will not be quite as good as some others, but if you keep the car for a long time you will probably save the difference in having less repair costs.
In well over 200,000 miles, all my last Dodge required was one heater hose, 2 brake jobs, and 2 timing belts. When sold it used no oil, never had had freon added to the A/C and ran as good as the day it was bought.
I just test drove a 2008 Dodge Avenger SXT today, and I fell in love. You do get so much bang for your buck and it was actually pretty quick with its get up and go style. It had plenty of room, style, and features for only about $23,000. I was leaning towards the Ford Fusion before I got a load of this car, but now I am excited about the Avenger.
I'm so excited that you like this car. I was looking for reviews on this car to see what other people thought of it and it seems a lot of people, including you, really like this car. I can't wait to get one of my own!
Actually there is no 2007 Dodge Avengers. They came out in late 2007 as a 2008 model.
Anyways, I also own a 2008 Dodge Avenger SE and I disagree with all those professional reviews as well. The 2.4L engine has very good power, and yes it is very fuel efficient also.
The ride quality is superb. You don't feel or hear the bumps in the pavement and the ride is quite quiet. I love the exterior styling as well.
There was a few recalls, but none major, and they were all handled by the dealer for no charge.
I drove a used one with 4K on it. I liked it a lot. Thick steering wheel rim, precise steering and handling. Great ride. Quiet and peppy four cylinder. I loved the instrument panel lighting, the satellite radio. What didn't I like? Side visibility because of the rear door and roof design. What makes it great is what makes it bad! Wholesale trade-in price is only $8500 after one year and 15k miles. This was a $22000 car new. Average retail on the car is around $12000 used, but obviously they have room to negotiate! Even if I got it used for the $8500 it still would drop to nothing shortly. But it is a GREAT car.. even if the car review professionals disagree.
My wife, daughter, and I rented an 09. Started with almost 400 miles and ended in 7 days with close to 1300 miles on. Never tested the gas mileage, but must have been mid 20's by keeping it topped up 4 times in heavy Florida traffic. The power was okay. After some more miles I'd hope it would improve a little.
The only thing I did not like was looking over my shoulder after checking mirrors to change lanes. The big blind spot was hard to get used to. After discovering that the seat could be raised by pumping the lever on the side of drivers seat, it was easier to see.
Liked the radio and all controls were easy after being used to 05 Subaru and 05 Mercury.
Trunk space was good with all luggage for 3 on vacation.
Not enough air conditioning for the rear passenger if the front riders get cold easy. Would compare to the Subaru Outback seat and ride. Doesn't come close to the Mercury Montego for comfort or power.
It was fun to rent one for vacation, It's a good car for someone and saw a lot of them on the road. My daughter thought it was a Mustang at first glance in the line of all the midsize cars in the Alamo rental lot.
I rented a 2008 Avenger with 21,000 miles from Enterprise in Portland Oregon 2 weeks ago. Noticed and pointed out to the manager the 8 inch long by 1 inch wide strip of rust by the drivers front wheel well. Paint was flaking off around the area.
Car drove well but lack of visibility when lane changing, backing up, etc. was an issue.
I rented one for a few weeks while on vacation in Florida. I really didn't like it that much. It wasn't very comfortable to ride in and it often had trouble getting up the on-ramps on the highway. I wasn't impressed. I was going to rent a Honda while I was down there, but this was much cheaper. Now I see why. It wasn't horrible to rent, but I'm glad I don't own it.
