My head gasket blew at 77,000 miles.
Exterior lock on driver side door will not turn with key.
Lock on glove compartment will not unlock.
Driver side door handle cracked and had to be replaced.
Brakes need to be repaired too frequently.
Many front end problems, such as wheel bearings, control arm, ball bearings, etc...
Repairs and maintenance are expensive.
I love the performance of the car. It rides quietly and handles beautifully on the road. The gas mileage wasn't too bad either.
I like the look of the car also. It's small, and sporty, but it's a comfortable ride.
If it wasn't for the constant engine trouble that I have had with this car, I would have been completely pleased with my purchase of it.
I have problems with the front bearings also. the door handle broke off because its made out of plastic. The fifth gear broke. even with all these problems it handel's well. you can't beat 30 mpg on the highway. I have 108000 miles on mine and it still can go to 130 mph. It probably can go faster, but I didn't push it.
A dodge avenger isn't really a dodge. dodge made a contract with Mitsubishi to make the dodge avenger. It is really the exact same thing as a mitsubishi eclipse.
It actually is not the "exact" same. It has a longer wheel base (103").
Mitsubishi made the Dodge Stealth not the avenger, the old Plymouth Laser was the same as the 1st gen. eclipse. The Avenger is built on the same platform as the Chrysler Sebring coupe (both are American designs)
The Dodge Avenger and Chrysler Sebring are both designed by Chrylser on the same platform, but built by Mitsubishi in Illinois.
The Dodge Avenger for that year did have a recall on something in the front end. Maybe that is why you think it is so high maintenance.
I just purchased an Avenger, and I really enjoy the car. It does have its problems, and the guy told me that he had a new front end put on the car because of the problems he was having. He said he just took it to a Dodge dealership and had it fixed no problems.
You know, I really like my Dodge Avenger 6V. I think it is cool even when the front end of the bumper is broken because its so low to the ground; the passeger door handle is missing, the paint is wearing off, and sometimes, not always, it refuses to start or turns off as soon as I start it. Some guy told me that was happening because vapor was locked in the tank, he told me to start the car with the cap off, and it really worked. But anyways I am very pleased with the Dodge Avenger, mine has a 101000 mileage and it runs smooth as if it were new. I can make good turns at a speed of 40 to 45 with no problems. And its all good.
