1987 Dodge Dakota 4x4 3.9 V6 from North America

Summary:

Haven't killed it yet... And I've tried

Faults:

Replaced the shocks when I first got it, because they were original, and as you would imagine... bad.

About a year after I got it, the AC went out, but I didn't bother fixing it or even seeing what was wrong with it.

Replaced the starter at about 184,000.

My driver's side CV axle finally exploded while I was driving at about 185,000. The rubber boot had been ripped off for only god knows how long.

Fuel line rusted out a while back as well. Just cut the bad piece out, and replaced it with a piece of fuel hose and 2 hose claps.

Dragged the gas tank over a rock going up the mountain, and it cut a little slit in it. Nothing a little fiberglass wouldn't fix.

Smog pump went bad, so I just took the belt off. Surprisingly, the guy didn't fail it on its last inspection.

The 4 wheel drive stopped working a few months ago for about a week. No clue why, but it started working again.

And to be honest, the truck is just starting to wear out. The truck was a work truck its whole life, and has never been kept in a garage, so the body is dented, seats are worn out, paint and interior all look like crap.

But besides regular maintenance and little stuff like I mentioned, I haven't had to do anything else.

General Comments:

I've abused it and neglected it, but as far as I can tell, it doesn't care.

It looks like crap, and gets 13 mpg going up the mountain or rolling it down, but it always starts, and has never left me stranded. Great thing is I got the thing for free, and I don't think I've even put $400 into it to keep it on the road in the last 7 years, and that's including oil changes.

1987 Dodge Dakota LE 318 from North America

Summary:

The truck is very excellent and sporty

Faults:

I have had a new built 318 engine put in it in 2006, and the only things that have gone wrong with it, are the gas lines were corroded, and the fuel pump went out. Nothing else since then.

The truck rides and drives good, and it looks good customized.

General Comments:

The truck is very fast and handles great. The suspension is fabulous, and the truck still rides like new.

The seats are very comfortable. The tilt steering wheel is good to have; it even goes below the dash line, and it is supposed to do that.

1987 Dodge Dakota Sport 3.9 V6 carburated from North America

Summary:

If I was a weird unfaithful man, this truck would have been the other woman with my ex-wife

Faults:

Nothing really. I mean the carburetor needs to be rebuilt, but you know that happens after age.

The seats are tore a bit, although it's been a work truck since day one.

The dash vinyl has very few sun cracks in it.

General Comments:

You should go buy one. This is my second one of these trucks. I really don't care to drive anything else. It has never let me down or left me stranded, and they will run until they die.

For example, my last one ran and ran. Then one day, leaving a job site, the rear end started to go out on it, and as I was coming up a hill, the transmission burned out on it. Not noticing that as I was going down hill, as I started the next hill the motor blew. All at I believe it was 347,000 miles I believe.

All in all, they're great trucks.

1987 Dodge Dakota 3.9L from North America

Summary:

Amazing

Faults:

Since I had the truck I had to change regular things such as air filter, spark plugs, oil filter, and fuel filter which were all done at 115,0000 miles. I had the alternator replaced at 118,000 miles. The owner before me had the engine rebuilt at 100,000 miles. I had knew tires put on at 119,000 miles. Minor scrapes and dents on sides, but not noticeable about ten feet away. The carburetor is now just starting to act up. I get about 11 miles per gallon.

General Comments:

The truck runs great. It clearly goes over 85 which is how high the odometer reads. It never gives me problems when I try to start it up. I have not broke down in it. I can load up the bed with lots of weight and the truck doesn't seem to notice. It has a towing capacity of 5500 pounds, which is more than most new trucks in its class such as Tacoma, rangers, and canyon, and Ridge line.
