2005 Dodge Dakota 4.7 V8 from North America

Summary:

This is a great truck as long as it stays problem free

Faults:

So far, the only problem I have had is with the passenger airbag. There is a switch that has to be turned by your key to activate or inactivate your passenger airbag. Mine does not appear to work properly and seems to have a mind of its own, sometimes on and sometimes off.

The downshifting is a little slow, I find you have to depress the pedal substantially before it shifts down, a little annoying.

The club cab is quite small with very low seats, only adequate for small kids or storage.

General Comments:

I have been quite happy with the truck to date. It is quite peppy off the start with the 4.7 litre v-8 and has quite adequate power.

The ride is smooth for a 4x4, and really comes in handy when you get a foot of snow all at once!

The new styling really appeals to me.

Even though it is a 4x4, the trucks sits quite low which really make it easier for entry and egress.

I like the new Dodge Dakota. The only problem I have had with the vehicle is the passenger airbag. It seems to turn off all by itself. I don't know why, but the dealer can't seem to correct the problem. The truck rides very nice, but definitely needs to sit higher for a 4x4!

If it is an '05, the passenger side airbag is controlled from a switch in the passenger seat. This switch is weight sensitive and will deactivate the airbag when something in the seat is 60lbs. or less. My dad has an '05 Dakota SLT Quad Cab and this is how the salesperson explained it to us.

Summary:

Not enough bang for the buck

Faults:

I had a condition in which my vehicle had to be left for a week with a fuel indicator problem. The meter would not read and the fuel tank would not fill due to the fuel pump system breaking loose. The truck was in this condition when I bought it. This took two weeks to repair due to the dealership inability to fault isolate the problem.

The rear tire has blown when hitting a pothole at low speed causing damage to the braking system.

General Comments:

Sadly, this truck is no longer the inexpensive workhorse truck it used to be.

I have an 03 Dakota Quad Cab 4X4, with the 4.7 liter V-8. I love my Dakota! In my humble opinion, I think Dodge absolutely ruined the Dakota with the re-vamped, 05 model. This thing looks awful!!! What were the design engineers at Dodge thinking???

Dump the Dakota and go check out the new 05 Toyota Tacoma Quad 4X4, with the new V-6 engine. Toyota has a great product here! That will be my next 4X4 truck.
