1999 Dodge Durango from North America

Summary:

Sell it or save up, because sooner or later..

Faults:

Yet another signing in with a 1999 Dodge Durango that continues to stall without warning, often in dangerous intersections.

Replaced the brain a few years ago, only to have the issue return again. $2,000.00 is not exactly a budget item. Local shop informed us the fuel filter and fuel pump was the issue. Replaced both at $400.00, only to have the stalling continue. Replaced fuses, issue continues. Diagnostics runs $86.00 in this area, takes all day and typically leads to 'replace the brain' diagnosis.

While cost to repair is one thing, the important issue seems to be that numerous people have reported the same difficulties with this vehicle. Unless and until someone is killed and the family files a lawsuit, nothing will be done. Obviously none of us have the funds to repair the vehicle, let alone file a lawsuit. Selling the vehicle is an option, only to hand impending doom to someone else.

1999 Dodge Durango SLT V8 from North America

Summary:

I love my truck, but it seems this year of Durango has a major computer issue!

Faults:

The 99 Dodge Durango stalls while driving and will not restart until the engine cools down.

General Comments:

After weeks and many return trips to my mechanic, we found the only way to fix this problem is to replace the computer!!!

1999 Dodge Durango LTS+ 5.9 from North America

Summary:

No problems, owned two, would buy again

General Comments:

To be honest, people who have problems come to these review sites to bash the vehicle, but the truth is most people have no problems, like me. I've owned 2 Durangos, neither of them giving me unreasonable repair costs, or trouble.

1999 Dodge Durango SLT 5.9 litre from North America

Summary:

Piece of junk

Faults:

Car stalls without warning. Have replaced PCM twice. The fuel pump and fuel filter three times. Nothing has worked except putting a bag of ice on the PCM. This is a very dangerous situation that Chrysler should have taken care of this years ago. I no longer drive the car it just sits in the driveway. What a huge hunk of junk! Thanks Chrysler. No wonder you're bankrupt. I will never buy another Dodge Chrysler.

General Comments:

This vehicle is a piece of junk! And all the money in the world couldn't fix it.

1999 Dodge Durango SLT 5.9 from North America

Summary:

I love my Durango; lots of power, not too big

Faults:

I have recently had problems with my 1999 Durango 5.9 liter stalling for no reason. Will be driving along and it stalls. If I wait for about 5 minutes it starts back up. I noticed it started after I took off my high performance air cleaner and put back on the stock air box. I put back on the high performance air cleaner and it cleared up the problem.

As far as I can tell, the PCM computer is located on the fender tight against the stock air cleaner. If you allow some air to cool off the PCM the problem goes away. So you can pay a couple hundred bucks for a high performance air cleaner and get about 20 extra hp and solve your problem, or invest in a new PCM and deal with the problem again in the future.

1999 Dodge Durango SLT 5.9L V8 from North America

Summary:

A boss of a truck until something breaks and it will cost you big time

Faults:

Transmission had to be rebuilt right after the warranty had expired. $4000.

Transfer case FELL OUT of the car. The mechanic that fixed it said he had never seen anything like this happen in the 20 years he has been a mechanic. $2500.

General Comments:

It's a mean looking truck that has power under the hood, however, because it weighs as much as a tank, it takes a while to get going. Plenty of storage, but when the 3rd row seats are up, there is not much "trunk" space. Interior paneling is cheap and is prone to cracking. Everything is made of a cheap plastic that just breaks when you take off panels.

Like all Chrysler cars... the drivetrain sucks. I have had the transmission rebuilt because it wouldn't shift out of second gear. I was on my way home from work, red lining at 45 mph on the interstate during rush hour. Talk about scared for my life.

This car has great potential. Put an exhaust on it and you will be able to hear all eight cylinders pumping it out.
