1999 Dodge Durango UT 5.2 Liter V8 from North America

Summary:

An expensive death trap !!!

Faults:

Everything went well with it at first when I bought it, despite the fact that I seem to be getting about 11 miles per gallon. Three months ago I had a serious accident in which my wife and I collided head on at 30 - 35 miles per hour with another vehicle and our airbags didn't deploy. We both sustained serious injuries from it. The bigger shocker is that the brake pedal broke off before the actual collision, which means that we could have been going slower when we collided.

General Comments:

After months of fighting Dodge (who maintain that everything functioned properly) we have decided to go ahead and purchase a Silverado. Dodge has had terrible customer service in this case. Their offer that they made to me was taken back the moment I called to accept it also. I'll never buy another Chrysler!

They do know about this problem and I think the dealership should have a fix for it now... Even though I had to tell mine how to fix it!

1999 Dodge Durango SLT+ 5.9 Liter Gasoline from North America

Faults:

We have 11K+ miles on our new Durango in only 6 1/2 months and the only problem we have had with it is the latch to the center console won't engage anymore. The next time we take it in for an oil change, the dealer will fix this problem. Absolutely no other problems.

General Comments:

The dealer must have seen two suckers coming when they sold us the Durango, and the monthly lease payment is just above $580.00! In spite of that, we are in love with our Durango, and we plan on keeping it long past the end of our initial three-year lease. The only down side is that our MPG is only 13.3! The Durango is in love with Amoco service stations!

We love it anyway!

$580 per month for a lease and in the end you will have nothing to show for it. I bet you also have credit card debt out the whazoo. Get a clue, $580 a month sounds more like a house payment not a car lease. This should be a warning to all others who would even consider leasing a car, what a dumb financial decision.

Well, yes, 580 is a lot. But the poster said as much ("most have seen two suckers coming"). You don't have to go off on him.

For a lot of people, leasing a car is a great option, especially if the lease is around $200/month. Not everyone has $30-40k to drop on an auto.

In this case, though, it really sounds like the lessee got sandbagged. Your lease payments should never be more than a loan payment if you buy the vehicle. Otherwise, you might as well buy the damn thing.
