1989 Dodge Dynasty review from North America
"A family sedan that's also a tough work horse"
What things have gone wrong with the car?
Rear brake cylinders gave out at 123,000 km's. These cost about $300 to have fixed.
Distributor cracked at 125,000 km's. This cost around $220 to fix.
The exhaust smells acrid. It's done this since I bought it, and I don't know what causes it to do that.
Front passenger window won't roll down. Front driver's side window getting harder and harder to roll down as well.
Camshaft seal busted at 131,000 km's. I don't remember how much it was to get this fixed, but it was a lot.
The car needed a new gas tank at 133,000 km's. Old one rusted out.
The car is hard to start when it has been sitting for a while. This is another problem I have not remedied yet.
Water pump quit at 135,000 km's. Over $200 to replace.
More recently, the speedometer has decided to work when it wants to.
General comments?
All in all, I think the Dynasty is a great car regardless of it's few little character flaws. I only paid $2K for it, so what more could I ask for? It's actually made as a Chrysler Dynasty in Canada. I use it for delivering pizza, a job that in this northern Canadian climate can wreak havoc on a vehicle. It has endured freezing temperatures in winter, scorching heat in the summer, frostheaves, potholes and a whole host of other hazards. It has served me well. Although the 3.0L V6 has lousy fuel mileage in town, it gets the job done on the highway. I would like to get a Sprint for my delivery job and keep the Dynasty for highway driving. It's comfortable, powerful, and has LOTS of room. I also like the bright green instrumentation lighting since I do most of my driving after dark. The green lighting makes the instruments very easy to read after dark.
