1989 Dodge Dynasty review from North America
"Comfortable, but had lots of bugs"
What things have gone wrong with the car?
Oil pump after 1 week.
Water pump at same time as oil pump.
Struts were weak.
Electronic transmission had habit of sticking in 2nd gear, it's an PCM (powertrain control module) problem.
General comments?
This car had been used a lot for family travelling before I bought it, so it had a lot of miles on it. It seemed OK at first, but about a week after I got it, the oil pump went. The computer controlled gauges told me oil pressure was fine, but I knew something was wrong. 300 bucks, an oil pump and a water pump later I had it back. The motor was never the same after, it rattled and smoked, however, it didn't seem to affect the car much. The 3 litre Mitsubishi-built V6 in these cars were known for oil burning problems. It was plenty fast for a big comfortable car, and fuel mileage was quite good on the highway, I got around 28mpg consistently. The rear springs sagged a bit, I took it to a mechanic who told me this car had air springs originally and someone had replaced them with ordinary coils. The A/C never worked right. This car had an awesome sound system, the Infiniti 1 radio, one of the best stock radios I've listened to. This car was very comfortable, lovely seats, decent driving position, and it was nice and quiet on the road. If the mechanicals weren't so bad on it, I wouldn't have minded driving right across the country in it. If you can find one at a good price and all the running gear in in good shape, it may be a good car for you.
