1997 Dodge Intrepid base review from North America
"Decent car for what I paid for it, and considering its age"
What things have gone wrong with the car?
Only problem I have had with this car is the A/C not working; otherwise this car is one of the best handling & riding cars I have owned. I was surprised, as I have never much cared for Mopar. I have driven them in the past and they had plenty of power, but were lousy handling & were a real pain to work on. MPG averages around 27-30 mpg, which is pretty good for a car of this size. My 2001 Saturn got about 4-5 more mpg & it was a 2.2 4cyl with manual trans, and a lot smaller car. Overall, the Intrepid does quite well all around. I guess I am one of the lucky ones. 3.3 liter motor seems to be the one that has the fewest problems. Of the ones that were offered for the Intrepid, I have had no problems with it at all. I really do not baby my vehicles; they get regular service (oil change at 3000 miles, tune ups, etc.) but they do get put through their paces, so to speak. This motor does all that I ask of it. It has great response & starts up almost the instant I turn the key; I can't ask for more than that.
